Cleveland Clinic Lead Cast Technician in Stuart, Florida

Cleveland Clinic's Orthopedic Center provides top-quality patient care to athletes at the recreational, high school, collegiate, and professional levels. As a Lead Cast Technician at, you will become an integral part of our Orthopedic team. Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Measuring, applying, changing, repairing, and removing casts, braces, and splints.

  • Educating patients and their families.

  • Coordinating resident and nursing in-service programs.

  • Meeting with sales representatives to review new/various products used in cast application.

Responsibilities:

  • Measures, applies, changes and removes casts, braces and splints for patients.

  • Repairs casts.

  • Applies and instructs patient in the use of durable medical equipment.

  • Removes dressings, sutures and staples.

  • Prepares patients for exams and special procedures.

  • Identifies and reports changes in patient status to RN and/or MD.

  • Initiates CPR and emergency measures as required.

  • Assists in transporting and rooming patients as needed.

  • Provides health education to patients and families.

  • Ensures supplies are stocked and equipment is in safe working order.

  • Assists in ordering, re-ordering supplies, stocking clinical exam rooms, and other stocking duties as needed.

  • Maintains all designated work areas in a neat, orderly manner.

  • Communicates patient concerns to the physician and other caregivers.

  • Facilitates the smooth operation of the outpatient clinic desk.

  • Coordinates resident and nursing in-service programs and presentations. Meets with sales representatives to review new/different products used in cast application in conjunction with coordinator, inventory control.

  • Acts as the technical specialist to other Cast Techs.

  • Trains new employees

  • Reviews competencies with cast techs/updates changes to procedures/products.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant Program including an externship may be considered.

Languages:

  • English

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Two years' experience as a cast technician or in a related position in the operating room or other related patient care setting.

  • Understanding of human anatomy sufficient to perform duties of the job.

  • Basic knowledge of math.

  • Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant Program may offset some of the experience requirement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion; manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Able to lift and transfer patients.

  • Requires some exposure to body fluids

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
