Description

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a board-eligible/board-certified General Surgeon. This is a full-time academic position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level.

As a member of the Department of Surgery team, the successful incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the continued development of the clinical programs in the Division of Bariatric, Foregut & Advanced GI surgery. The candidate's primary clinical focus will be to provide broad general surgery services at Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital. Experience/training in minimally invasive surgery are preferred. The candidate will participate in general surgery call and have ample opportunity to develop an academic surgical practice. There is no opportunity for bariatric surgery practice as part of this position. Candidates will participate in research conferences and grand rounds, as well as other committees and events in the Department of Surgery.

The incumbent will participate and contribute in scholarly activities in the Division, including but not limited to, research, conferences, education of students, residents and fellows, grand rounds, etc. in the Department of Surgery. The candidate will see patients in the outpatient setting and perform general surgery procedures. The position includes participation in education efforts for the ACGME accredited general surgery residency program.

The Division of Bariatric, Foregut and Advanced GI Surgery at Stony Brook Medicinsurgeons attendings covering all aspects of the field.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
MD/DO Degree (or foreign equivalent). Board Certified/Eligible in General Surgery. Must have New York State license to practice or be eligible for New York State license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Fellowship training. Demonstrated clinical and basic research capabilities. Interest and experience in supervising undergraduate/graduate medical students and residents. Commitment to an academic and research/writing career, including a proven academic track record, programmatic development and evidence of leadership skills.
