Robert Half seeks a Controller to become a part of a successful Construction/Contractor company and take responsibility for an accounting and clerical department. Based in the Stockton, California area, this opening for a Controller is a permanent position. If you can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff, you might be right for this position. This role's duties will require effectively managing self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, leading while also being a team player, generating innovative ideas, and challenging the status quo. How you will make an impact

  • Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed

  • Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

  • Flexible in completing tasks beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Meet client expectations by reviewing deliverables of self and team to make sure they meet client satisfaction

  • Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure that firm-wide operation is efficient and effective

  • Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis

    Requirements - Prior work done in public accounting is desired

  • High attention to detail and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills

  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • Strong communication and social skills and able to receive criticism well

  • Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail

  • Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges

  • Expertise in WIP - Work In Progress

  • Proficiency in Sage Intacct

  • Solid understanding of Construction Accounting

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines

  • Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

  • Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
