Washington County Sheriff's Office Correctional Officer - Retention Payments Available in Stillwater, Minnesota

PUBLIC SAFETY RETENTION PAYMENTS To be eligible for the $1,250 Public Safety retention payment, must be actively employed in the jail for at least 6 months in 2024 and employed on November 24, 2024. To be eligible for another $1,250 Public Safety retention payment, must be employed in the jail for a least 6 months in 2025 and employed on November 25, 2025. Our Correctional Officers take great pride in wearing the uniform and badge of the Washington County Sheriff s Office. As a Correctional Officer with Washington County Sheriff s Office your daily routine will never be boring. Our Correctional Officers are focused on maintaining peace, security, and safety within the Washington County Jail. They train extensively in mental health crisis intervention and can remain calm, confident and security- minded in the most adverse and stressful situations. Additionally, our Correctional Officers enforce facility rules and maintain order, directly supervise the daily activities of inmates, search for contraband and weapons, complete facility inspections, and write reports on inmate conduct and behaviors. Hiring Process The hiring process for law enforcement positions in general may take 6-10 weeks After the initial interview you may have an interview with the Washington County Sheriff (Dan Starry) and members of the Command staff. Additional phases of the hiring process are as follows: Background investigation Psychological examination Medical Examination Drugs of Abuse Screening Shifts - Washington County Sheriff s Office use military time which will be noted in parenthesis. Days - 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM (0630-1500) Afternoons - 2:30 PM-11:00 PM (1430-2300) Nights - 10:30 PM-7:00 PM (2230-0700) Rotation of shifts Correctional Officers work four days on, two days off. The length of each shift is 8.5 hours. 8.5 Hour shifts allow a hour overlap at the beginning and end of shift for pass-on information. Working four days in a row is called a rotation. For example: If you work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday you would have Friday and Saturday off. You would then work Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and have Thursday and Friday off. Shift exchanges are also allowed with other staff if you need a special event off and want to save your vacation. Training Training is approximately 40 days or 10 rotations. This will include a 7-day Jail Academy which will occur within the first month of your employment. During the time you are in training you will be placed on either dayshift or afternoon shift. Halfway through training we will switch you to the opposite shift (Days to Afternoon or vice-versa). Once done with training you will be administratively placed where there is the greatest need. You may also be rotated through each shift for learning enrichment purposes.
