ABOUT STANFORD UNIVERSITY AND RESIDENTIAL & DINING ENTERPRISES:

Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports the academic mission of the University by providing high-quality services to students and other members of the university community. The department has an annual operating budget of over $350M, operates 24/7/365, and oversees a $3B asset portfolio comprising a 7 million sq. ft. physical plant across the campus. In autumn quarter of the 2021-22 academic year, R&DE will return to providing housing for over 13,000 students and dependents, serving meals at 17 dining halls, 12 retail locations, and operating athletic concessions and conference operations. Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

This role is currently designated as hybrid and may provide incumbents with flexibility for partial telecommuting.

JOB PURPOSE:

This role will lead, manage, and support complex programs, functions, and strategic/special initiatives in consultation with senior leadership in support of stewardship of one of the largest university housing and dining facilities portfolio (7 million square feet of space across 300 buildings with assets totaling 3 billion dollars). This role will concentrate heavily on programs and functions related to strategic planning, operational efficiency, technology, communications, and special projects management.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Lead strategic planning and analysis for complex functions and programs with significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise. Will provide development of programs and functions from initial concept to implementation.

  • Manage the administration and evaluation of programs and functions. Oversee the interpretation, implementation and compliance with policies and regulations. Recommend actions and/or resolve complex issues that often span organizational boundaries.

  • Represent the programs and functions at the university level and to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.

  • Develop and manage outreach strategy that includes relationship development, communications, and compliance.

  • Oversee or supervise staff resources in the development and implementation of programs and functions.

  • Develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.

ADDITIONAL CORE DUTIES (related to this specific role):

  • Participate as a member of the senior leadership team for the Assistant Vice Provost for R&DE Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects.

  • Lead the development of planning processes and resulting implementations for strategic and special initiatives.

  • Partner and develop strong working relationships with institutional leadership, special committees, and consultants to support execution of key initiatives.

  • Lead programs that require cross-functional engagement with key staff across the organization, and with external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of people at various levels to achieve results.

  • Evaluate business processes and operational and/or financial effectiveness. Analyze and resolve complex issues and provide alternative solutions as necessary. May lead process improvements.

  • Analyze unit needs and make recommendations to leadership for changes in staffing, facilities, finance, technology and/or administrative functions.

  • Recommend new internal policies, guidelines, and procedures.

  • Identify and evaluate relevant benchmarks and propose metrics that measure progress against goals for programs and initiatives.

  • Assist with the design and implementation of effective communications programs and strategies; supervise the routing of materials internally and externally to ensure timely distribution of materials.

  • Write, edit, and prepare presentations; ensure that the priorities and initiatives of the leader are understood and advanced; and advise the leaders on strategy, priorities, and communications that will enhance the organization to key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support large campus emergency/crisis responses as an essential worker.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
