Salary: $125,000 - 150,000, bonus eligible

We are seeking a skilled Nutritional Scientist with specialized expertise in protein and human health to join our research team. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the development and evaluation of innovative protein-based products and formulations. Your role will involve designing nutrition research, analyzing data, and providing insights to enhance understanding of our ingredients, focusing on protein nutrition and its impact on muscle, whole-body protein metabolism and human health.

In this role, you will translate business objectives into scientific research programs, coordinate internal & external resources to conduct research work, ensure that market and technology opportunities are understood and prioritized, and that regulatory, innovation and customer needs are efficiently and effectively met. ​

Key Accountabilities:

Develop and maintain strong connections to relevant Biotech business partners to conceptualize, plan and execute relevant internal & external pre-clinical and clinical work directed towards substantiation of identified health benefits and health claims.

Conduct and coordinate internal & external activities to assist the business in identifying and pursuing technical and commercial opportunities in the areas of sports nutrition, healthy aging/adult nutrition, clinical nutrition and targeted health benefits areas and other relevant areas of scientific discovery.

Key Responsibilities

Nutrition Strategy Development:

  • Develop our human-centered, nutritional science strategy focusing on the importance of muscle protein and whole-body protein metabolism on general health and wellbeing through different stages of life and across key human cohorts.

  • Develop a holistic view of nutrition and wellbeing with particular focus on muscle and gut health and the importance of nutritional status and intervention with emphasis on protein, fiber, and polyphenols.

  • Develop compelling narratives of our strategy to engage customers and showcase the distinct and often unique benefits of our ingredient and product portfolio.

Research & Development:

  • Conduct research on protein sources, including plant-based, animal-derived, and recombinant proteins.

  • Evaluate the nutritional composition and bioavailability of different protein types.

  • Support and shape our pipeline development and R&D initiatives providing nutritional science education, input, and guidance.

  • Collaborate with product development teams to create functional, protein-centered food and supplement formulations.

Nutritional Analysis:

  • Analyze protein content and quality in various food products using laboratory techniques.

  • Assess amino acid profiles and protein digestibility to optimize nutritional benefits.

Health Impact Assessment:

  • Investigate the role of protein in promoting muscle growth, recovery, and overall health.

  • Evaluate protein requirements across different age groups, lifestyles, and dietary preferences.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay updated with regulatory guidelines related to protein fortification and labeling.

  • Ensure product formulations meet nutritional standards and compliance requirements.

  • Stay updated with regulatory guidelines related to recombinant protein ingredients and offerings.

Data Interpretation and Reporting:

  • Interpret research findings and present data-driven insights to internal teams.

  • Prepare scientific reports, white papers, and presentations for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including food scientists, researchers, and marketers.

  • Communicate scientific concepts and findings effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

Key Requirements

Experience:

  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Nutrition, Food Science, Biochemistry, or related field.

  • Proven experience in protein research, including protein synthesis testing, human trails.

Competencies & Skills:

  • Minimum of five years of related work experience.

  • Proven experience in protein research, including protein analysis and characterization.

  • Strong understanding of nutritional biochemistry and metabolism.

  • Familiarity with food product development and formulation.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in scientific data analysis and interpretation.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven portfolio management experience, including gate review team/portfolio review team participation.

Preferred Skill:

  • Experience with clinical trials or human studies related to protein nutrition.
