GRATIOT COUNTY DIRECTOR, HEROES CENTER

*General Summary *Under the direction of the Heroes Center Board of Director, establishes, directs, and participates in the provision of assistance to veterans, their survivors and dependents in providing services and resources. Secures contracts, volunteers, services and coordinates activities. Writes grant proposals, coordinates and oversees funding raising and sponsorship programs. Supervises all Heroes Center Staff members and volunteers. Salary starts at $50K.

*Essential Functions *

  1. Maintains policies and procedures to guide Heroes Center operations. Supervises all Heroes Center staff and volunteers.
  2. Guide veterans, their survivors and dependents to resources to secure benefits under programs providing assistance to veterans such as service-connected disability, non-service-connected disability pension, survivors pension, life insurance, home loans, death benefits, education, vocational rehabilitation, discharge upgrades, job finding assistance and reemployment rights, medical/psychological benefits, to include advocating proper treatment and taking corrective action as necessary.
  3. Develops and execute programs for veterans and their families to provide a skill set and healing environments to ensure product members of the community and a healthy family core.
  4. Stays abreast of services available through community agencies and refers veterans to those agencies as appropriate.
  5. Secure Grants, Sponsorships and fundraising for the center.
  6. Manages operating cost and reports to the board monthly with budget, funding and expenditures.
  7. Manages scheduling and recruitment of volunteers and staff members.

**Employment Qualifications

Knowledge and Education:** Professional level knowledge in a specialized field, equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a regular four-year college program. Leadership and self-initiative are required for the position.

Work Experience: Experience that provides familiarity with researching, developing, documenting, and writing, acquiring sponsorship and fundraising. Experience with identifying grant funding opportunities, writing grant applications, grant reporting and management. Prefer experience in an agency dealing with veteran's issues.

Contacts and Working Relationships: Must be able to establish a working relationship with service providers, volunteers, community members and veterans/families. Must cultivate a welcoming community in the center for people to want to come. Provide a space where it becomes a one-stop shop area for veterans to find the resources required to give them a hand up to success.

Technology Application: Requires a degree of skill with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software; and high degree of skill with financial analysis, budgeting and fund raising.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Guides all staff members (volunteers/security/service providers) in making the center run efficiently and effectively. Makes recommendations to Heroes Center Board for any adjustment or personality issues; but if required has the discretion to make those decisions by exception.

Independence of Action: Works under broad administrative direction from the Heroes Center Board. Has substantial discretion in interpreting policies, procedures and practices, and in selecting and determining alternative courses of action regarding Veterans.
