Who are we?

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.

How you will make an impact

The incumbent of this position is responsible for maintaining the student roster and processing student applications.

  • Responsible for maintaining enrollment records and the school’s roster of students. Acts as point of first contact for families wishing to have their child attend the school and is responsible for explaining the intake process, providing the Application for Student Evaluation and for contacting parents and district schools to collect required documentation on a student to be able to process the application. This involves promoting and maintaining a positive relationship with district schools and parents, and maintaining current, organized records of contacts. As records are received, the Registrar must catalog them and review them for completeness and determine when the file is ready to be sent into review. If additional information is needed after going into review, staff informs the Registrar and s/he obtains the information from the appropriate source. Serves as a regular participant in Friday Files and provides administrative support to the Director of Admissions during the intake process.

  • Responsible for maintaining the student database of demographic data on all students enrolled at FSDB, past and present. This includes locating specific data for input and monitoring changes to student records. Produces reports as requested for dissemination on a regular basis and works closely with the Technology Services Department in planning and problem-solving regarding database information and organization. Responsible for the annual registration of students which includes: mailing forms, collecting returned forms and disbursing them to the appropriate department, inputting registration data, attending Registration Day, and ensuring that all registration data is inputted on returning students in a timely manner. Student withdrawals are submitted to the Registrar for removal from the current roster. The information is then shared with the student’s local school district and the school’s Data Processing Administrator for removal from State reporting.

  • Maintain custody documents on all students. Communicate with Police Services and Executive Director of Parent Services regarding the custody information.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR.

  • Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24.

    Qualifications

    High school diploma or Associate of Arts Degree and general knowledge of administrative and clerical skills. *Proof of education will need to be provided at time of interview *

    Preferred

    Bachelors Degree and two years of experience in administrative and clerical skills;

    Sign Language skills

    K-12 Special Education knowledge

    Sign Language Requirements

    Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain a Survival proficiency in sign language, within four years of hire.

    Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.

    Hiring Salary Range: 12-month position, $36,790.78 - $39,790.78 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education

    Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm
