Charles Schwab Manager, Enterprise and Operational Risk Management in Southlake, Texas

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Strategy and Governance is a core division within the Enterprise and Operational Risk Management (EORM) Department and is responsible for several Enterprise Risk Management programs across Schwab. ERM Strategy and Governance supports Schwab in managing and mitigating risks within risk appetite across risk categories using a consistent risk management process that enables effective risk identification and assessment, response, measurement and monitoring, and reporting and escalation through Schwab’s integrated risk governance structure. Reporting to the Director, EORM, this role will engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including senior management, to achieve risk management objectives.

What you are good at

  • Serve as subject matter expert on Risk Governance, including the ERM Policy, ERM Standards, and ERM Framework

  • Support evolution of Committee Administration practices, including developing guidance materials and supporting buildout of systems/tools/toolkits

  • Support maturity of the Risk Metrics Management Program, including developing guidance materials and supporting buildout of systems/tools/toolkits

  • Provide thought leadership and partnership internal to the EORM Department and with business partners to support effective execution and evolution of risk management practices

  • Develop and deliver risk management presentations and communications intended for diverse audiences, including business partners, senior management, internal audit, and regulators

  • Support responses to regulators, internal audit and due diligence inquiries

  • Support the remediation of internally identified and regulatory issues related to EORM

  • Support ad-hoc projects at the guidance of the Director, EORM Risk Strategy and Governance

What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of “challenging the status quo,” this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5+ years of experience within the financial services industry, with a focus on risk management, compliance, supervisory or similar role

  • Strong technical writing skills and experience reviewing governing documents for risk management functions

  • Expert proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint; working knowledge of SharePoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Team-first mentality and willingness to roll up your sleeves to support team when requested

  • Strong organizational skills and great attention to detail in a rapidly changing environment

  • Ability to incorporate and understand mass information from a variety of sources to recommend a course of action

  • Excellent visualization and presentation skills with the ability to inform and persuade both verbally and written

  • Comfort with and ability to facilitate meetings independently and effectively with all levels of management

  • Sharp critical thinking, business analysis skills (creative, strategic, and practical), ability to prioritize activities, problem-solving skills, and strong business and relationship judgment

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in all businesses and at all levels of the firm

  • Self-motivated, able to bring projects to conclusion within established timeframes
