Boswell Engineering is seeking an experienced and highly motivated candidate as the Assistant Department Manager ( ADM) in our New Jersey Construction Division. He/she will be responsible forquality control/quality assurance, staff utilization, financial management, production/project oversight, and the safety of the team. The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the Department Head and assist with leadingthe company’s statewide Construction Services practice. This individual will also be responsible for directinga team of field personnel on Roadway, Bridge, Municipal, County, Rail and Transit, Water and Wastewater, and related Construction Management and Construction Inspection projects.

Additionally, the ADM will assist with the development and growth of the team as well as developing and maintaining positive client relations, including monitoring client satisfaction. The successful candidate will also possessdeep experience withmore than ten years managing projects for varying agencies or utilities.

Responsibilities:

The ADM will work with the NJ Construction Inspection Services Department Manager and assist with the following:

  • Direct and coordinate activities of the Department for attainment of office goals

  • Develop and implement strategic goals for the Construction Services practice and collaborate with the Department Manager.

  • Review and analyze project staffing activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine the Department progress toward stated goals and objectives.

  • Collaborate in Departmental business development and marketing/teaming strategies including proposal technical writing.

  • Develop and monitor the Department budget and staff utilization.

  • Manage recruitment activities including attracting top talent and facilitating on-boarding of new team members.

  • Provide leadership and direction by mentoring and motivating staff on issues such as training, performance feedback, technical guidance, financial management, and client relations.

  • Resolve personnel issues, such as marginal performance, policy interpretations, and succession planning.

  • Participate in internal and external professional development activities.

  • Lead Department compliance and adherence to QA/QC practices.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and/or related field

  • NJ Professional Engineer (PE) preferred

  • NICET level III/IV Highway Construction Inspection certification is required

  • 10+ years of Construction Management/Supervision experience with highway and bridge construction, structural components (bridges, retaining walls, sign structures, culverts, etc.), including earthwork, concrete and asphalt paving construction, drainage, water quality basins and utility construction

  • Prior Construction Management/Resident Engineering experience and positive working relationships with NJDOT, NJTA, PANYNJ, and/or NJTRANSIT

  • Valid certifications in ACI Field Concrete Testing, NJ Society of Asphalt Technician certification (NJSAT) or NECEPT), Rutgers TCP. ACI CCTC certification desirable

  • Experience deliveringlarge construction projects valued between $30 - $200M
