ROLE SUMMARY / PURPOSE

The NBCUniversal Consumer Products Group is seeking a Senior Manager of Product Development & Design – join the Creative & Product Development team that services the licensing business. This position will contribute to the overall entertainment licensing objectives that drive brand awareness and deliver revenue to the studio.

The NBCU Creative and Product Development team goal is to extend Universal’s film and television licensing titles through products that consumers desire and embrace.  Senior Manager of Product Development & Design –is responsible for the development of quality products for designated consumer products area with unique selling points that delight and surprise consumers, from concept through to the finished product.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Manage and implement Product Development of all categories for NBCU Consumer Products film & catalog titles – from trend research, to product strategy and conceptualizing, developing assortments and directing line plans, packaging design to final product approval. The role will be responsible for all Lifestyle product approvals in Korea.

  • Be the design expert in assigned categories – execution, fabrications/materials, production capabilities.  Understand licensee design & manufacturing capabilities to guide effective design and development.

  • Create and build new ideas into marketable product lines for existing properties and new initiatives that elevate consumer products to a new level. Provide clear and concise direction on trends, graphic composition, typography, draw-overs and creative notes that guide partners to follow our character models and brand attributes.

  • Lead creative asset development based on local business needs, as well as actively participate in global creative process to deliver new and fresh creative assets each season. 

  • Develop brand expertise to help drive the consumer products business forward through exceptional creative asset creation and consumer product design.

  • Inspire and challenge licensee partners to push boundaries while developing compelling and innovative products to uniquely position the NBCUniversal brand at retail. 

  • Maintain strong knowledge of retail landscape; monitor sales performance of key categories & programs.

  • Establish successful working relationships & communication with key partners including (but not limited to):

  • Licensees & manufacturers

  • Category, Retail, and Franchise

  • Studios & filmmakers Participate in cross-functional team synergies by collaborating and sharing best practices with the other Creative and Product Development team members, Category, Marketing and Retail to achieve results.

  • Manage, mentor, and train designers, coordinators & interns to develop their knowledge, skills and career path within creative design, product development and licensing.

Basic Requirements: 

  • Proven knowledge and professional skills in product design, graphic design or related field

  • 10+ years product category development experience required

  • 5+ years of managerial experience required

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to provide strategic, thoughtful, and clear creative art direction

  • Able to travel – both domestic and international

  • Mac proficient and advanced skills in Adobe Suite and Microsoft applications required
