The Department of Epidemiology at the University of Washington School of Public Health has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time 1.0 FTE Project Manager (Payroll Title: Research Coordinator (E S 7)). Under general direction from the Principal Investigator, Dr. Ali Rowhani-Rahbar, the Project Manager will work closely with the Washington State Office of Firearm Safety and Violence Prevention (OFSVP) and members of the Firearm Injury & Policy Research Program (FIPRP) to convene the stewards of data on firearms across different agencies in Washington State. The Project Manager will also develop plans for data use and integration to facilitate research that could inform firearm violence prevention policy and practice. The Department of Epidemiology at the University of Washington School of Public Health is a large academic and research department. Faculty in the Department are fully engaged in research grant acquisition, instruction and mentoring, and service-based activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Data Coordination (65%)

  • Facilitate professional relationships among firearm data stakeholders and research partners including setting up regular meetings, developing new professional relationships, and maintaining the existing ones.

  • Coordinate meetings among stakeholders responsible for the collection and sharing of firearm related data.

  • Contribute to developing and maintaining professional relationships among different agencies by engaging partners in workshops, meetings, on-site visits, and other collaborations.

  • Identify firearm data sources, data collection methods, and data-sharing mechanisms to link firearm data across multiple agencies.

  • Work with OFSVP and agency partners to create data infrastructure required to collect and link firearm data across different systems.

  • Work closely with OFSVP and partners to examine RCWs and regulations around data use in difference agencies.

  • Identify gaps in available data needed for ongoing analysis, policy development, and the implementation of intervention and prevention strategies.

  • Identify steps that could be taken to improve access to the existing data and improve the usefulness of data collected.

  • Support program data collection by collaboratively developing tools, resources, and trainings for community and research partners as well as agency stakeholders.

  • Provide recommendations for the improvement of data collection and sharing.Data Integration, Visualization, and Interpretation (35%)

  • Use Tableau, R, or other related software (ArcGIS, Power BI and or Socrata) and web-based tools to create data visualizations based on results.

  • Use and create data dashboards and interactive tools to display data and results.

  • Produce presentations, reports, or other materials to communicate results from data as appropriate.

  • Use data linkage techniques, such as deterministic or probabilistic linkage, to integrate data across different platforms and systems.

  • Analyze and interpret firearm-related data to understand trends, most impacted areas of Washington State, and demographic groups experiencing the burden of firearm-related harm within the state. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related health or social sciences field (e.g., Public Health, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field).

  • 2 years of experience working in research or practice.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Tableau, R, and other related software and web-based tools to create data visualizations. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in a related health or social sciences field (e.g., Public Health, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field).

  • Experience in firearm violence research.

  • Experience in data linkage.

  • Experience in working with difference agencies to coordinate inter-agency efforts.

  • Experience writing technical reports, manuscripts, and publications, and preparing presentations.
