Amazon Business Intelligence Engineer, RBS ARTS in Seattle, Washington

Amazon’s Retail Business Services, Analytics team is looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to help build the next generation of analytics solutions. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor as we transform from a reactive, request-directed team to a proactive, roadmap-driven organization that accelerates the business.

Working closely with the US VSP RBS operations and business teams, analytics teams, you will simplify and scale our data and infrastructure, developing and owning canonical data sets for the business. Utilizing the latest AWS technologies, you will help to implement engineering best practices, set technical standards, and hold a high bar for operational excellence. This is a highly visible role, with regular access to senior business and technology leaders.

You will be a key influencer on the team, providing input on priorities, technical designs, and technology decisions with a focus on scalable, maintainable and efficient systems and processes. You will understand and anticipate stakeholder needs, thinking big when recommending solutions. You will be comfortable navigating an ambiguous environment, knowing how to confirm and reconfirm assumptions. You will advise leaders and stakeholders on project milestones and associated prioritization.

Key job responsibilities

• Design, development and ongoing operations of scalable, performant data warehouse (Redshift) tables, data pipelines, reports and dashboards.

• Development of moderately to highly complex data processing jobs using appropriate technologies (e.g. SQL, Python, Spark, AWS Lambda, etc.)

• Development of dashboards and reports.

• Collaborating with stakeholders to understand business domains, requirements, and expectations. Additionally, working with owners of data source systems to understand capabilities and limitations.

• Deliver minimally to moderately complex data analysis; collaborating as needed with Data Science as complexity increases.

• Actively manage the timeline and deliverables of projects, anticipate risks and resolve issues.

• Adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SQL and data warehousing concepts

  • Experience developing and presenting recommendations of new metrics allowing better understanding of the performance of the business

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing complex SQL queries

  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

  • Experience with forecasting and statistical analysis

  • Experience working as a BIE in a technology company

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
