The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Anatomic Pathology Technician or Trainee WORK SCHEDULE

  • High school graduation AND 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of biological and physical scienceOR

  • Equivalent education/experience. Technician

  • Certified, or certified within two years from the date of hire, at the Technician level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of Americaor

  • Equivalent education/experience. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cut and embed various types of biopsy and surgical tissues

  • Perform simple immunohistochemistry procedures

  • Perform special stains via automated stainer and or manual staining

  • Prepare laboratory solutions as needed in procedures

  • Assist in Fine Needle Aspiration collection

  • Use, care, and maintain histology instruments

  • Adhere to quality control and quality assurance requirements and perform low to medium complexity research projects

  • Independently monitor reagent use and prepare appropriate volumes needed, record daily instrument temperatures and perform preventative maintenance on instruments according to prescribed protocols
