J&J Family of Companies Senior Component Engineer in Santa Clara, California

Senior Component Engineer - 2406182197W

Description

Johnson & Johnson, Robotics and Digital Solutions (RAD) group is recruiting for a Senior Component Engineer located in Santa Clara, CA.

The Hardware Team in the RAD group is a diverse group of highly motivated, world-class engineers developing next-generation, groundbreaking robotic platforms. Please join our team and contribute to the success of our mission.

Overview:

The RAD team is seeking a highly motivated individual who is a self-starter and is passionate about electrical systems, CAD library management, and ensuring robust, reliable design through quality.

As a Senior Component Engineer, you will be responsible for qualifying and releasing components to the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool, manage various component commodities in the internal database, and ensuring that the system's components are reliable and effective for the product. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter, be personable, and working well in a diverse, cross-functional team.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage component libraries within Altium Designer Concord Pro for the program: process part requests, handle part releases, and manage part life cycles.

  • Perform BOM analysis, including component lifecycle checks, stock availability, alternate component selection, and compliance confirmation.

  • Create and release components in the PLM system through the change control process.

  • Explore alternative component technologies or suppliers to enhance availability, quality, and reliability.

  • Collaborate with various teams, such as procurement, manufacturing, quality, and engineering, to address component-related issues, resolve challenges, and optimize component selection and usage.

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of international and domestic agency requirements (RoHS, REACH, Full Material Declaration (FMD), Prop 65, WEEE, PFAS, CE mark, etc.).

  • Investigate component failures to identify root causes and develop corrective actions. This may include analyzing failed components, reviewing test data, conducting root cause analysis, and working with manufacturing or suppliers to address reliability issues.

  • Utilize reliability prediction methods, such as MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) calculations, to estimate the expected reliability and failure rates of components. This helps in assessing and comparing the reliability characteristics of different components.

  • Collaborate with engineers and suppliers to ensure components meet the required quality and reliability specifications. Review and approve component qualification plans, test reports, and reliability data provided by suppliers.

  • Identify potential risks and challenges related to electrical system reliability, such as component failures, environmental factors, electrical stress, and operational conditions. Developing strategies to mitigate these risks and improve overall system reliability.

  • Ensures selection of electrical components that meet reliability specifications and standards. Evaluating component datasheets, reliability reports, and manufacturer information to make informed decisions.

  • Supports continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance product reliability, reduce failure rates, and increase system lifetime.

  • Create or verify component footprints (land patterns) that comply with industry standards.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, such as IPC guidelines, and address any regulatory requirements or certifications.

  • Work closely with electrical engineers and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of the layout with the overall system design.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge/Skills, Experience, And Education:

  • Proven experience using a product lifecycle management system such as Agile.

  • Understanding of regulations such as RoHS, REACH, PFAS, etc.

  • Experience working with CAD programs such as Altium or Cadence and library management tools.

  • Solid understanding of electronic component reliability, requirements, and specifications.

  • 5 years of component engineering experience.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple concurrent processes.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Understanding of PCA design.

  • Understanding of component reliability.

  • Experience with Altium Designer and Concord Pro component management.
