Bio-Techne Research Associate in San Jose, California

Salary Range: $61,600 - 92,400 base salary depending on experience and qualifications

Position Summary:

The Research and Development (R&D Science) group at ProteinSimple, a Bio-Techne brand, is seeking a motivated Research Associate to join our growing team on our mission to develop game-changing analytical instrumentation. As a part of the Product Development Team, you will work among innovative and supportive scientists and engineers that have a passion for product development and a knack for disrupting the way people typically characterize proteins. In this role, you will participate in all phases of product development process, from proof-of-concept to commercialization, where your efforts will be crucial to the development of cutting-edge technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with scientists and engineers from diverse backgrounds to learn and develop new analytical instruments, assays, and reagents

  • Setup, execute, and optimize experimental plans and protocols

  • Analyze, interpret, and troubleshoot results

  • Write, follow, and maintain experimental protocols for product development activities

  • Participate in technical transfer of products from Product Development to Manufacturing

  • Document and present results in technical discussions and team meetings

  • Perform stability, verification, and validation studies for commercial release of new products

  • Collaborate with hardware, system, and software engineers during each phase of the product development process

  • Assist with training of new employees as needed

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • BS in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or related field

  • Minimum of 1-3 years relevant work experience

  • Experience working in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, CRO, or CDMO company is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Hands-on experience with protein analysis or protein characterization techniques is required. Examples include immunoassays (ELISA, western blot, MSD, Luminex), chromatography (HPLC), and capillary electrophoresis (CE).

  • Ability to plan and execute a number of experiments in parallel

  • Ability to learn quickly and thoughtfully apply new skills and procedures

  • Ability to prioritize own work and manage time efficiently to meet project deadlines, with flexibility to changing priorities

  • Must have excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience performing verification and validation studies is a plus

  • Creative and critical thinker with careful execution of experiments

  • Strong team player and self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Eagerness to learn innovative analytical platforms and contribute to their advancement

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required

  • Experience with statistical software (JMP, Tableau, Minitab) or Python (or other programming language) is a plus but not required.
