The anticipated salary range for this role is between and . The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for profitable business development as well as monitoring the quality of new and existing portfolio of companies with at least $2 million in gross sales with more emphasis on customers with higher revenues (at least $10 million). Ability to lead and coordinate with SMBC (Americas & Japan) and other referral sources to bring in and deepen the relationship of assigned customers and prospects.

This position requires a strong understanding of Deposit Accounts, Services and Products as well as basic knowledge of credit and financial statement analysis, in order to offer beneficial banking solutions (e.g. Loans, Cash management, and FX) based on clients and prospects needs.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for the customers and colleagues, and ensuring that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer and team experience. While operating within the Bank’s risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Achieving sales goals and contributing to the growth of Bank loan and deposit portfolio.

  • Work independently to identify and develop profitable new client relationships by leveraging centers of influence, existing clients & referral sources.

  • Work with product partners (Middle Office, Portfolio Managers, Cash Management Sales, International, Treasury, etc..) to analyze, evaluate and develop a tailored relationship strategy for each client or prospect. Ensure that customer relationships are managed to maximize the opportunity for the Bank, while considering Bank risk and customer needs.

  • Meet with customers on a regular basis to enhance the trusted advisor relationship and ensure business needs are being met.

  • Attend community and industry specific conferences and/or meetings to broaden relationship networks, referral sources and continually deepen knowledge of trends, practices, services and competitive landscape.

  • Training junior RMs/Associate as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • May require business trips within and/or outside of the state of California.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

  • 4-7 years+ of sales and service experience in a banking or financial services industries.

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or other related fields and/or equivalent work experience.

  • Fluent in Japanese & English, for Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Considerable knowledge of various types of Business & Personal Deposit Accounts, Products and Services including Cash Management Services.

  • Considerable knowledge of New Accounts and Documentation Requirements.

  • Considerable knowledge of various types of Business Lending Products including (1) C & I Loan, (2) CRE Loan, and (3) SBA Loan.

  • Considerable understanding of Financial Statements, Business and Personal Tax Returns.

  • Considerable understanding of Foreign Exchange.

  • Strong customer maintenance and relationship development skills to achieve the department sales goals.

  • Well-developed analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work with others in team setting and contribute to positive team working environment.

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and eagerness to learn.

  • Strong work ethic; self-motivated, passionate, and driven to achieve results.

  • Own/lease an automobile (with valid insurance) and valid driver’s license to conduct outside appointments with customers, prospects, referral sources, etc…
