Description

We are offering a short term contract employment opportunity for a Controller in San Francisco, California. This role is a hands-on position in the non-profit industry, requiring expertise in QuickBooks and Grant Accounting. You will be the point person in our one-person accounting department, overseeing all accounting functions and ensuring the smooth running of the financial operations.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage all general ledger activity

• Ensure all rent and bills are paid in a timely manner

• Utilize QuickBooks and Intuit for payroll processing for a team of 13 employees

• Use Bill.com and Dropbox for managing and organizing financial documents

• Ensure all documents are readily available and organized for audit purposes

• Manage grant funds effectively, with a focus on maintaining compliance and accuracy

• Oversee the work of one other employee, providing guidance as necessary

• Maintain and update financial records in Google Docs

• Regularly review accounts, identify discrepancies, and implement necessary corrections

• Respond to accounting inquiries from management in a timely and accurate manner.

Requirements • Possess a minimum of 7 years of experience in a Controller role or similar position.

• Demonstrated proficiency in Auditing and Budget Processes.

• Extensive experience with software such as QuickBooks and bill.com.

• Solid understanding and experience in Grant Accounting.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; Master's degree or CPA is a plus.

• Excellent strategic planning skills and able to participate in the organization's long-term strategy development.

• Strong leadership skills with proven ability to manage and develop a team.

• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial staff.

• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.

• Familiarity with finance and statistical analysis software.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity.
