Heartbeat Music Academy Program Specialist - Music Education in San Diego, California

Definition

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Program Specialist of Music Education will be responsible for the implementation and development of the Music Education Program for the Preschool 4 the Arts Program (both San Diego and Riverside County), Elementary Program, and the Middle/High School College Prep Music Program (San Diego County).

The Program Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that Preschool 4 the Arts Program follows the California Department of Support Division Title 5 Funding Terms, Conditions and Title 22 Health and Safety Regulations, and local, city, county, state, and Federal Regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Designing and developing comprehensive music curricula for both the Preschool 4 the Arts program and the Middle and High School College Prep Music Programs. This includes selecting the appropriate music instructors, music styles, music ensembles, and instrument implementation.
  • Program Planning: Creating and implementing a strategic plan for the music programs, including setting goals, objectives, and timelines. Collaborating with other team members to ensure alignment with overall academy objectives.
  • Instruction and Training: Overseeing and coordinating the instruction of music classes, ensuring high-quality teaching methods, and providing training and professional development opportunities for music instructors.
  • Student Assessment: Establishing evaluation criteria and conducting periodic assessments to measure student progress and identify areas for improvement. Providing feedback and guidance to students and instructors to facilitate growth and development.
  • Performance and Showcase Coordination: Organizing and managing music performances, recitals, and showcases for both the preschool, elementary, and middle/high school programs. This includes coordinating rehearsals, costumes, stage setup, and production logistics.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with parents, students, instructors, and preschool staff to maintain effective communication channels. Addressing concerns, providing updates, and fostering a positive and inclusive music community.
  • Resource Management: Ensuring optimal utilization of resources. Procuring necessary equipment, materials, and costumes within budgetary constraints.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Assisting in marketing and promoting the music programs to attract new students and maintain enrollment. This may involve participating in open houses and community events to assist in recruitment.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensuring the safety and well-being of students during music classes and performances. Adhering to relevant safety protocols and industry standards. Complying with all legal and regulatory requirements related to music education.
  • Professional Development: Staying updated with the latest trends, techniques, and best practices in music education. Attending professional development workshops, conferences, and networking events to enhance knowledge and skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree or higher in a Performing Arts program; or a progressive background in Music Education that will carry out the music education program for all styles of music.
  • Possess strong leadership and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must be computer-literate, highly proficient in oral and written English.
  • Physical clearance (Physical and TB Screening) and Background Clearance are required prior to the start of employment.

Employment Period

Based on funding award from the California Department of Education, the Program Specialist of Music Educations employment period extends up to 250 days per fiscal year under Title 5 funding.

Salary and Benefits

The Program Specialist of Music Education will be compensated based on the Adopted Salary and Benefits Schedule approved by the Chief Executive Officer.

Purs ant to the Employee Handbook and based on funding availability, will be afforded Health, Dental, and Vision. In instances of termination or voluntary resignation, employees will be afforded continuation of benefits based on the regulations outlined within COBRA.

Performance Evaluation

The Program Specialist of Music Education will be evaluated by the Chief Executive Officer formally and informally to provide continuous feedback for staff development and growth. Program Quality Review Reports will be submitted to the state funding partner monthly to monitor program quality
