In the Wireless Wireless Technologies and Ecosystems Group, you will help commercialize groundbreaking Wireless Technologies in Apple products. You’ll design, develop, and patent the next generation of our state-of-the art wireless technologies. You’ll collaborate across departments to help craft wireless solutions that elevate the customer experience with Apple products and services. Our goal is to ensure nothing stands in the way of our customers’ connections with their devices. The position demands expertise in Wireless Systems with an emphasis on Cellular systems and requires close collaboration with cross functional hardware and software teams. We are seeking a passionate, highly motivated and self-directed engineer to work across the L1/ PHY layer of groundbreaking wireless technologies.

Key Qualifications

  • Proven understanding of wireless communication, information theory, signal processing and 3GPP Standards (Physical Layer LTE and NR specifications)

  • Embedded cellular FW/SW programming along with good understanding of communication systems algorithms

  • Understanding of cellular communication protocols. (Low-Power, Low Latency, High Reliability)

  • Deep understanding of software engineering principles, and core computer science fundamentals

  • Good experience with memory constrained Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and concurrent programming

  • Working knowledge of possible cellular modem L1/PHY architectures with emphasis on the HW/SW partitions of communication subsystems including inter-module interfaces

  • Experience with 4G/5G Modem L1 Control covering PHY procedures and data path timelines, starting from RF transceiver through to higher layer protocol stacks

  • Excellent skills in low-level programming expertise using C, C++, and assembler, embedded systems proficiency, limited and shared resources

  • Experience with SW prototyping of solutions using unit test/virtual platforms

  • Proficiency debugging embedded software systems using various methods including log analysis and using test equipments

  • Passionate and inquisitive, and seek to solve everyday problems in innovative ways.

  • Laser-focused on the smallest details that are important to our customers

Description

We are looking for passionate engineers who are driven to question the limitations of what is feasible to develop the next generation of absolute best-in-class Apple products. Such engineers with cellular systems and/or firmware development experience will be part of an innovative team that work on L1/PHY layer of 4G/5G modem that go into a range of Apple products. The position involves identifying and/or developing core cellular technologies that solve everyday problems for customers using Apple wireless product lines including wearables. This includes having an eye to identifying usecase based innovative solutions that enhance user experience. The ability to work with cross functional teams in the modem stack is a must-have skill and the desire to vertically integrate with new usecases and applications is expected as a second nature! Finally, working on perfectly delivering the implementation along with supporting the complete system validation of such solutions is a requirement.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or Equivalent. Masters or PhD Degree preferred

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $131,500.00 and $243,300.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
