General Summary:

Qualcomm's Systems group is seeking candidates for its Computer Vision team in San Diego, CA. The team develops new algorithms, hardware architectures and systems for computer vision functions running in an embedded systems targeted primarily to devices for the AR/VR, smartphone and IoT environment. We are seeking candidates with strong knowledge and hands-on experience in systems architecture and hardware development of computer vision technologies within an embedded systems hardware environment. Experience in developing real time computer vision systems is desirable. Working knowledge of problem solving of computer vision tasks using neural network processing is also a plus for this position. Candidates at different levels of experience will be considered.

Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will have responsibilities in one or more of the following areas:

  • Work with other leads on design and technology development activities for computer vision systems including studying state of the art algorithms and profiling on target platforms, hardware/software partitioning of algorithms and provide architecture and specifications for hardware implementation.

  • Come up with adaptations of existing algorithms that will enable new functionalities through hardware implementation. This work will involve close collaborations with algorithm developers, SoC architects and designers to drive to hardware development that will enable novel AR/VR experiences with state of the art advances in performance, power and silicon area.

  • Systems and hardware architecture development will span conventional computer vision frameworks as well as neural network based frameworks for the enablement of AR/VR experiences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Expertise in systems architecture and hardware design supporting computer vision and machine learning use cases

  • Expertise in methods for partitioning a solution across hardware and software within an overall systems solution

  • Experience in developing hardware systems level architecture for accelerators targeted to real time computer vision tasks

  • Experience in evaluating system and hardware block level architecture tradeoffs in throughput, latency, power and area

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

  • Programming skills in C/C++, Python and experience with hands-on coding for the purpose of developing and testing hardware

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with significant systems and hardware design topics related coursework.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have multiple years of industry experience developing systems and hardware level solutions in computer vision area and/or AR/VR systems

  • Expertise in deep neural network processing frameworks for computer vision tasks

  • Experience with top down high level model to HW mapping

  • Experience in developing hardware solutions or understanding at algorithm level in SLAM, hand tracking, eye tracking, 3D scene understanding, body pose estimation is a plus

  • Experience in advanced ASIC/SoC design methodologies including knowledge of HLS is a plus.

  • Knowledge of industry trends and disruptive technologies in computer vision area with emphasis on AR/VR

  • Results oriented, self motivated, proactive and have demonstrated creative and critical thinking skills and being able to operate with minimum high level direction

  • Phd degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with emphasis in Systems architecture and hardware development for real time systems in computer vision and/or AR/VR areas.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

OR

Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

OR

PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

Pay range:

$114,500.00 - $171,500.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
