Senior Pattern Engineer-Commercialization

For over 40 years, San Antonio Shoemakers, a San Antonio, Texas based company, has developed a reputation as a premier American manufacturer of high quality comfort footwear. SAS’ D&D Department is looking for a self-motivated, highly qualified and experienced Upper Senior Pattern Engineer to join the Product Development team. This engineer is primarily responsible for the creation of new footwear patterns, while ensuring the manufacturability of the concept within the SAS factories and aiding in final commercialization of new product. The Engineer will be able to address engineering issues relating to patterns, processes, and components while consulting with Manufacturing Technical Engineers on production line impact.

Position:

SAS has an opening for a Senior Pattern Engineer-Commercialization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.

  • Collaborate with the Design team to translates conceptual footwear design ideas into product prototypes

  • Possess extensive knowledge of a variety of footwear constructions

  • Ability to create a Last Draft and build all upper patterns from a design concept

  • Ability to build patterns manually or through the use of CAD software

  • Ability to critique the fit and wear performance of footwear

  • Ability to train and teach an associate pattern engineers

  • Ability to grade shoe patterns in sizes and widths

  • Continually review existing patterns and recommend manufacturability improvements

  • Responsible for sample creation and tracking through the factory setting

  • Assists in creation of bill of material for all new product introductions

  • Thorough understanding of footwear pattern grading

  • Experience in creating manufacturing support tools

  • Prior experience with inspection of footwear materials, especially a background with leather

  • Strong attention to detail with a discerning eye for quality and high level of accuracy

  • Able to think inside and outside the box and deliver excellence.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Physical labor is necessary for 8 hours or more per day with breaks approximately every two hours including standing, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, talking, hearing and engaging in repetitive motions.

  • Excellent vision to inspect the quality of their work.

  • Must be able to climb stairs.

  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs.

    Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Engineering, or equivalent.

  • 7-10 years’ work experience in the footwear industry as a Pattern Engineer.

  • Additional work experience in lieu of a degree may be acceptable.

  • Proficient in Windows Suite of software.

  • Proficient in Romans CAD patterning software (or similar).

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software preferred.
