University of Utah Postdocs in HIV biochemistry and structu in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Pornillos Lab in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Utah School of Medicine has immediate openings for highly motivated and innovative Postdoctoral Research Associates. Our group studies the fundamental molecular mechanisms of HIV-1 replication. Several active NIH-funded projects have the goals of: (1) Elucidating the mechanism of HIV-1 genome packaging; (2) Understanding the structure and function of the HIV-1 capsid during the post-entry stages of HIV-1 replication; (3) Understanding how various host cell factors interact with the capsid and virion components as either anti-viral or pro-viral factors, and (4) Characterizing novel anti-HIV inhibitors. We emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, and integrate structural biology (NMR, X-ray crystallography, cryoEM, cryoET), biochemistry, and molecular virology techniques in our projects. We welcome scientists with well-developed expertise in these areas, who wish to expand their skill sets and knowledge base. Previous experiences and future career objectives will be fully taken into account in determining project assignments. In particular, training opportunities have opened in correlative light and electron microscopy (cryoCLEM), with the recent installation and ongoing acquisition of new instrumentation at the Beckman Center for Cryo-EM on campus. We are also biochemically reconstituting viral replication processes starting from purified reagents to generate novel platforms for experiment and discovery. To learn more about our science and approaches, please visit the lab website at https://pornillos.biochem.utah.edu or view our recent publications.
