Job Summary

Utilizes Geographic Information Systems ( GIS ) to design, implement, and manage geospatial data. Uses a variety of tools and methods to capture and store spatial information from multiple sources. Uses precision, thoroughness, and critical thinking to maintain the highest standard of data integrity. Works closely with customers from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds to produce a diverse range of maps and other spatial products. Develops and manages processes to capture and deliver data, and trains customers and users on how to effectively interact with data. Works in conjunction with relevant colleagues across the organization, including University Information Technology, Commuter Services, Campus Planning, University Surveyors, and others.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and manages geospatial data and databases.

  • Obtains, compiles, modifies, and analyzes GIS data from a variety of sources, including construction drawings, imagery, and field collection.

  • Creates and maintains files, records, and documentation of relevant data while following established organizational processes.

  • Works with customers from multiple disciplines and backgrounds to identify specific project requirements and/or spatial data needs, develop processes to collect and maintain data, and provide training on use of GIS tools as needed.

  • Produces mapping products tailored to specific project or customer needs, including static and interactive maps, online mapping/data tools, and other data visualization graphics.

  • Authors Python programming scripts to aid in the automation of large geoprocessing tasks. Debug applications and write unit and functional tests for application code.

  • Integrate data from various relational database systems.

  • Manage and integrate external data sources ( CAD , GPS , construction drawings, and other databases) for project use

  • Create out-of-the-box solutions using ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Web App Builder.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in geography, computer science, or related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Minimum three years of experience in a related area required.

Preferences

Bachelor’s degree in geography, computer science, or related field or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Minimum three – Five years of experience in a related area.

  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and the ESRI ArcGIS suite, including ArcGIS Online and/or ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal and related applications (including, ArcGIS Field Maps, Dashboards, Survey123, Web AppBuilder, ArcGIS Indoors, etc.)

  • Familiar with an enterprise GIS system and versioning

  • Proficient with querying, analyzing, and editing geospatial data

  • Detail oriented, and able to maintain the integrity of a variety of geospatial datasets.

  • Customer service focused, and able to communicate complex concepts simply and effectively.

  • Proficient with problem solving and ability to employ critical thinking to troubleshoot both technical issues and rectify dataset incongruities.

  • Proficient at authoring clear and digestible maps and graphics.

  • Ability to learn new software programs and/or expand existing knowledge as needed

  • Familiarity with Python programming.

  • Familiarity with CAD drawings and related software (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, etc.).

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Acrobat, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

  • Familiarity with drones and related software ( DJI Fly, Litchi, etc.).
