Job Summary
The incumbent follows well-established laboratory procedures to complete work. Sensitive or unusual situations are referred to the supervisor. Work is frequently reviewed for accuracy and to ensure adherence to research.
Responsibilities
Clean and disinfect animal cages and equipment
Operate washroom equipment, including rack, tunnel and cabinet washers; autoclaves, disposals units, bedding dispensers and portable washers
Basic record keeping in logbooks
Work with cleaning and disinfecting chemicals
Sanitize washroom and storage areas
Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously : Standard vivarium environment; with typical vivarium environmental hazards and concerns. Standard laboratory environment; Safety shoes are required to be worn by all employees working in animal facilities
Seldom : Occasionally handles/works with biohazards or risks for potential job-related injury, rarely coming in contact with hazardous materials.
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking, walking.
Often: Bending, reaching overhead, twisting.
Seldom: Lifting – up to 50 pounds, kneeling, squatting.
Minimum Qualifications
GED or HS Diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
