Job Summary

The incumbent follows well-established laboratory procedures to complete work. Sensitive or unusual situations are referred to the supervisor. Work is frequently reviewed for accuracy and to ensure adherence to research.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect animal cages and equipment

  • Operate washroom equipment, including rack, tunnel and cabinet washers; autoclaves, disposals units, bedding dispensers and portable washers

  • Basic record keeping in logbooks

  • Work with cleaning and disinfecting chemicals

  • Sanitize washroom and storage areas

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:

  • Nearly Continuously : Standard vivarium environment; with typical vivarium environmental hazards and concerns. Standard laboratory environment; Safety shoes are required to be worn by all employees working in animal facilities

  • Seldom : Occasionally handles/works with biohazards or risks for potential job-related injury, rarely coming in contact with hazardous materials.

Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required:

  • Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking, walking.

  • Often: Bending, reaching overhead, twisting.

  • Seldom: Lifting – up to 50 pounds, kneeling, squatting.

Minimum Qualifications

GED or HS Diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
