Job Summary:

Responsible for all aspects of planning, configuring, installing and managing the Local Area Network (LAN), the Wide Area Network (WAN), Firewall, Internet Access, wireless, Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Load Balancers, external communication services and/or external Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Assists other Network Services staff and system support personnel with problems related to connectivity. Provides additional support of Layer 1 and Layer 2 issues, cable management, install of racks and equipment and triage of network related issues. Mentors IT staff.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exhibits and performs at a senior level to provide technical leadership to infrastructure projects, ongoing support and to perform technical complex problem determination/resolution.

  • Comprehensive knowledge concerning interoperability of security tools including firewalls, intrusion prevention systems and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Performs expert level technical analysis and engineering for a multivendor based environment and recommend appropriate action based upon indications and activities seen with these devices.

  • Provides expert level technical support interfacing with technology vendor support and service providers. Subject matter expert on at least one advanced networking/security technology.

  • Provides technical leadership to Sr Network Analysts and Network Engineer staff for Layer 1, 2 and 3 problem resolution and planned changes/upgrades to the environment, to include application of engineering patches and new releases.

  • Subject matter expert of routing and switching protocols for IPv4 and IPv6 including OSPF, BGP, VRRP, Multicast/Unicast and Spanning tree.

  • Participates in 24X7 on-call support for issues with a high degree of complexity and be part of the on-call rotation for network services team.

  • Develops test plans that include functionality, system integrity, test matrixes, strategy, and definition of test methodologies. Creates test platforms, including evaluation of test equipment, and testing of proposed network equipment, network protocols and new production applications. Designs, tests and deploys network and security architectures, including LAN-to-LAN, LAN-to-WAN, and WAN-to-WAN.

  • Comprehensive knowledge concerning interoperability of security tools including firewalls, intrusion prevention systems and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

  • Provides project management for a variety of project related activities requiring expertise in the primary subject area as well as other technology areas.

  • Remains current in technical area or discipline via annual technical training and/or technical certifications.

  • Performs and complies with established change management process.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent years of experience and education

EXPERIENCE

  • Five years' experience within area of discipline

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.

  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.

  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

  • Rare climbing.
