CMU MEDICAL EDUCATION PARTNERS Registered Nurse -- Pediatrics in SAGINAW, Michigan

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing nursing support to assist in patient care for assigned departments within the CMU Health faculty group practices (Family Medicine.).  Patient care activities are identified and staffed based on needs and as directed by the respective Clinical Practice Coordinator/Clinical Manager to ensure the delivery of nursing services in all clinic operations. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Receives and processes patient requests (i.e. prescription refills, supplies, equipment, urgent care appointments, etc.) in a timely manner.
  2. Documents encounters according to nursing standards of practice and policy.
  3. Reviews, places orders (i.e.: prescription refills, supplies, equipment, imaging, lab, etc.) electronically and by telephone.
  4. Prepares and ensures proper set up of examination rooms, equipment, supplies, applicable consent forms and related details associated with the reason for patient encounter.
  5. Receives calls that require nursing assessment, talks directly to patients on the telephone and accordingly instructs them on their next course of action.
  6. Confirms the reason for the office visit (chief complaint), and prepares the patient/caregiver for examination.
  7. Obtains and documents vital signs, health, and social histories as indicated or requested.
  8. Performs and documents office procedures, back office laboratory and diagnostic tests according to CLIA and current standards.
  9. Provides routine nursing support as directed by physicians and approved as standard practices (e.g., office surgical procedures, casting, trauma care, etc.).
  10. Educates patients to ensure comprehension of physician orders (e.g., prescriptions) and interpretation of treatment.
  11. Assists faculty physicians to ensure a meaningful educational experience relative to the academic mission for residents and medical students.
  12. Ensures delivery of excellent customer service.
  13. Assist with quality improvement projects as requested.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Clinic environment, requiring delivery of patient care (physical dexterity), application of bio-hazard material handling, minimal lifting (not greater than 10 pounds), extensive computer usage (eye strain).

 

TRAVEL

 

No travel required.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  1. Education: Registered nursing degree.
  2. Licensure: Must be currently licensed by the Michigan State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
  3. Aptitude: Understanding and appreciation of the medical education/academic process with an intrinsic desire to support said process through direct educational involvement and support. 
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that encourage harmonious working relationships with individuals in the health and educational settings.

     

PREFERED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Experience: At least 2 years of experience as an RN strongly preferred.
  2. Education: BSN preferred.
  3. Experience: Ambulatory care or Home Health care experience preferred
  4. Supervisor/Management experience preferred
  5. Willingness to serve as a team leader.
