Position Summary: The Design Engineer is responsible for various engineering efforts developing design-build technical documents for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) using engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Development and analysis of schematic design to ensure compliance with TxDOT and FHWA guidelines.
Development and analysis of engineering cost estimates for TxDOT design-build projects statewide.
Writing and revision of TxDOT Design Build Technical Specifications.
Review and recommendation of proposed Right of Way (ROW) and utility adjustments.
Development and oversight of procurement and construction schedules.
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Proficient in MicroStation or OpenRoads Designer.
Ability to learn Primavera P6 scheduling software.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited engineering program.
Engineer-in-training certification.
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
