THE POSITION

County Clerk's Office - Elections

Election Workers/Department Assistant

On Call / Non-Benefited position / No Guarantee of hours

Provides assistance to the County Clerk's Office by completing various tasks as needed in the Elections division. Essential functions of the position are accurate completion of basic paperwork and forms, processing election materials, unfolding, straightening and arranging mail pieces, sorting and categorizing mail using an alpha-numeric system. Other tasks may include: sorting and bundling elections mail; distributing mail to appropriate work areas; opening mail using an automated mail opener; stacking, shifting and transporting mail using trays and carts; examine and assess correctness and completeness of mail and process as needed; work as part of a team to accomplish department needs; various other similar duties as needed. Requires working non-standard hours and various shifts on short notice.

Requires regular and consistent availability.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation or equivalency supplemented with experience in customer service and working in an office setting, or any combination of coursework, experience and training which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and ability necessary to perform the duties of the position. At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon driver's license.

In addition to the above requirements, applications will receive further evaluation based on knowledge ofgeneral office practices and procedures, keyboarding, different filing systems including alphabetical, numerical, geographical, and chronological; basic business English, spelling, and punctuation; and basic math skills. Skill inoperating equipment that may be required by the position. Ability tocommunicate effectively in oral form; understanding and following oral and written instructions; work within approved safety standards of the department; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees and the public.

Work is generally sedentary; however, most positions require bending, speaking, hearing voice conversation, keyboarding, kneeling, working with hand-held devices, lifting materials up to 20 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing or sitting for long periods of time, viewing computer monitor screens, and walking.

SCREENING & EVALUATION

Background Investigation: While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass a criminal history backgroundcheckas part of a contingent offer of employment. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment.

Position requires occasional driving. Finalist will be required to provide a driving history that meets the Douglas County Driver Policy (http://www.co.douglas.or.us/hr/risk/safety/driving.asp) as part of contingent offer of employment.
