Ford Motor Company Durability Systems Engineering Support Technician in Romeo, Michigan

This is a union-represented salaried position.

The Durability Systems Engineering (DSE) Support Technologist works full time at the Michigan Proving Grounds (MPG) in Romeo (Department T630). The technologist is responsible for supporting the Durability systems engineers at tracking and documenting concerns identified on durability vehicles being tested at MPG. The DSE technologist assists with Durability inspections, communication of concerns, and assistance in repair direction. The technologist will be expected to work with local employees (represented and non-represented Ford personnel, as well as non-Ford personnel) and communicate with testing, engineering, and management teams. This position is for a crew pattern shift and requires a flexible working schedule.

Responsibilities for Candidates may vary and include but are not limited to:

  • Interface with Durability Systems Engineers and Vehicle Line Coordinators after hours and weekends to cascade direction of concerns found on test

  • Participate in daily inspections during structures testing.

  • Interact with MPG personnel (drivers, mechanics, and coordinators) to understand the vehicle and test conditions.

  • Regularly drive vehicles to help diagnose concerns

  • Ensure required data is collected at downtime data periods, including torque and repairs.

  • Provide detailed repair direction to Roush mechanics as required, with service procedures, and illustrations

  • Document in the DURIS database all issues before, during and at end of test. Include all required documentation, including photos, mileage, test condition, damaged parts, vehicle parameters, etc.

  • Follow-up documentation in DURIS on actions taken after issues are found to ensure a high quality record of all issues.

  • Coordinate special trials with D&R and Dearborn durability team to confirm if a fix works or to help root cause issues.

  • Provide D&R with an understanding of test events and procedures.

  • Train the garage personnel on new diagnostics tools and/or repair procedures

You'll have...

Associates in engineering technology or equivalent (preferred)

Two years’ experience in Proving Ground vehicle testing (preferred)

Experience with data acquisition systems – installation, troubleshooting, repair, etc (required)

Strong automotive diagnostic and repair background

Ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of Body, Chassis, Electrical or Powertrain issues

Solid organizational skills including proven ability to multi-task

Ability to work independently.

Proficient in utilizing MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Able and willing to work flexible hours and holidays as necessary to support testing

Understanding of Automotive CAN networks

Ability to work independently without specific direction

Proficient in utilizing ELMS (preferred)

Proficient in utilizing DURIS (preferred)

Able and willing to learn new software applications

Capable of using Webex and SharePoint

Capable of obtaining a Tier II driver rating (required)

Excellent problem-solving skills
