Hillside Family of Agencies Youth Care Professional I (Seasonal) - Camp Possibilities in Rochester, New York
We have tremendous opportunities for Seasonal Youth Care Professionals (YCPs) for the summer!
In this position as a camp staff member at Camp Possibilities, you will play a role in creating and leading a variety of outdoor camp activities in an engaging, therapeutic setting. Each week a different Hillside campus gets the opportunity to engage in a true camp experience on Hillside's 240 acre property, which includes newly built cabins, athletic courts, and a large pond. Each day camp staff greet campers with smiling faces, ready to take on the day's planned activities. Campers attending will rotate through the planned activities that camp staff members have organized, which includes fishing, kayaking, hiking, field games, cooperative games, tie dye, arts and crafts, athletics, archery, field trips, and more! Each day is wrapped up with reflection on what was learned, and campers are celebrated before saying their goodbyes. The day ends with camp clean up, minor maintenance, and planning for the next fun filled day. Camp staff members routinely come back for many summers, and seem to have more fun than the campers at times! You won't regret spending a summer at Camp Possibilities.
As a Youth Care Professional you will assist in the care and treatment of our youth. YCPs assist youth in developing life and social skills in a residential setting, and in establishing a safe physical and emotional environment for youth in care. As a YCP I, you will serve as an adult role model for youth and families in all behaviors, including communication, hygiene, appearance, management of self, response to stress, and in the demonstration of positive relationships with others.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate skills, abilities, and knowledge that promote a safe physical and emotional environment for children and families within the context of their living environment.
Perform job requirements with regular supervision while actively learning new areas of expertise in order to fulfill greater responsibilities.
Develop, implement, monitor and report on treatment objectives for the youth.
Recognize differentiating youth behaviors, participate within designated treatment teams to implement and execute treatment and behavior management plans aimed at assisting children, youth, and/or families to achieve their personal goals and objectives.
Responsible for managing activities within an individual or group dynamic, assuring the safety of the youth assigned by utilizing appropriate emergency and crisis intervention principles and techniques as needed.
Proactively maintain current knowledge of the emotional/behavior status of youth and their families, assess the effectiveness of treatment plans, and support interactions with family and local community.
Demonstrate the emotional competence and good judgment required to build productive and supportive relationships with youth and families, while implementing required rules and routines.
Ensure the safety of the children/youth assigned continual awareness of all procedures relating to emergencies.
Engage youth and families in trust-based, productive relationships in order to help youth and families prepare for transitions, interact in the community, and promote respect and independence.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED
A valid driver’s license and meet agency driving standards
Must be able to work outside in different weather
Camp staff do work July 4th
Life-guarding certification (or ability to obtain) preferred
YCP I: $17.50 Minimum Rate per hour, $22.00 Maximum Rate per hour, based on experience.
