We have an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant - Behavioral Support Specialist (TA) to work under close supervision in performing functions that assist in the treatment and care of the children/youth that we serve at our Monroe Andrews-Trahey Campus. You will work collaboratively with the Teacher to maintain a positive classroom learning environment and support the academic, emotional, and social growth of students.
Responsibilities:
Work with individual students or groups of students requiring special instruction.
Work with the classroom teacher to identify information about specific students in order to develop appropriate teaching plans and learning experiences for students.
Assist in preparation of instructional resources and aid students in the use of these resources.
Provide and effectively plan for prevention and management of crises by therapeutic crisis intervention techniques which may include emergency physical intervention techniques in accordance with agency policy; maintain appropriate affect regulation.
Work with the classroom teachers to instruct students in areas such as remedial reading, remedial math, and life skills.
Provide direct classroom instruction in the event of the teacher's absence.
Maintain communications with students’ families regarding progress of students, as instructed.
Help proctor and supervise students during state testing assessments.
Requirements:
High school diploma and experience working in a classroom or related therapeutic experience with children/youth
NYS or eligibility for certification as a teaching assistant
Must have a valid driver’s license and meet agency driving standards
$15.00 Minimum Rate per hour, $21.85 Maximum Rate per hour, based on experience.
