University of Rochester Mental Health Therapist in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under general direction and with considerable latitude for independent judgment, performs complex psychosocial assessments and diagnostic formulations for patients and their families when indicated. Provides comprehensive mental health and /or dual diagnosis services for individuals who have a diagnosable mental illness. Functions as the primary clinician and is responsible for assessment, treatment planning, therapy/counseling, and education services for patients and families. Systematically and continually assesses the patient’s mental condition in collaboration with the patient and family.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures the development and implementation of comprehensive and individualized treatment plans for patients with clearly defined therapeutic goals. Conducts evidence-informed treatment with patients and families. Assesses successful completion of therapeutic goals and plans termination of therapy accordingly. Coordinates with Primary Care Physician (or Primary Therapist) to ensure continuity of care.

  • Participates collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide coordinated care. Provides direct clinical services to assigned patients, including evaluation, individual, family and/or group therapy and crisis intervention.

  • Collaborates with referral sources and other professionals both internal and external throughout patient care activities. Mobilizes family and natural support networks when clinically indicated. Establishes and regularly maintains cooperative working relationships with community and health care agencies, as well as professional and administrative staff of the Medical Center and University. Establishes communication using established rules of confidentiality and laws concerning rights of patients.

  • Maintains active case records including written treatment plans, problem- oriented progress notes, periodic updates of treatment plans, and appropriate documentation of incidents, discharge summaries, interagency communications, and correspondence.

  • Participates in program staff development and informational activities. Maintains continuing education in knowledge and skills affecting the discipline of chemical dependency counseling, and COD treatment, including attendance at in-service meetings. Provides on-site teaching to multi- disciplinary students observing program components and therapy. May give lectures/talks on specific topics to patients, and their families. Reports to clinical supervisor regularly for supervision of all clinical activity. Attends regular program staff/team meetings to review policy, and procedures as well as conduct case reviews.

  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: Milieu management in clinic area; Toxicology screen monitoring; Assess patients for physical, behavioral signs of drug/alcohol use and perform; BAC tests as needed.

  • Assists staff in assessing patient’s behavior, and develops a plan of action to help maintain the safety of other patients and staff in clinic. Provides supervision and consultation to Interns as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree from a Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited program with major course work in mental health counseling required.

  • 1+ years of related experience in drug/alcohol dependence treatment preferred.

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Addiction treatment. Counseling theories and techniques. Clinical writing. Health and human services resources preferred.

  • Requires NYS Licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) or limited permit eligible. Must obtain licensure within 36 months of hire required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 57,595 - $ 80,600 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
