POSITION SUMMARY  :

Marathon Petroleum Company ’s Illinois Refining Division (IRD) is seeking a Maintenance Foreman – Electric Shop to lead our skilled team of electricians . This pivotal role involves overseeing the maintenance and repair of the refinery’s electrical system s, ensuring that operations are conducted efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulatory standards. The successful ca ndidate will be instrumental in improving safety, efficiency, reliability, excellence, costs, and continuous improvement with the team . This position reports to the Craft Maintenance Supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  :

  • Oversee MPC Electricians to ensure field/shop maintenance work is efficiently executed in adherence with MPC and industry best practices.

  • Be the site’s electrical safety champion, ensuring compliance with MPC’s electrical safe work practices, as well as NFPA 70E

  • Promote safe and environmentally compliant work practices. Conduct daily toolbox meetings and regular safety meetings. Ensure compliance with safety and environmental rules and regulations.

  • Coach and mentor craft employees to improve skills and performance. Assist with troubleshooting. Ensure the team understands performance expectations and monitor work quality and productivity.

  • Ensure training is conducted on the procedures applicable to the employee’s job tasks to assure employees involved in maintaining refinery equipment perform the work correctly and safely.

  • Assist in m anaging the routine maintenance budget.

  • Communicate daily activities, accomplishments, and concerns to management.

  • Ensure craft personnel are adequately trained for their job assignment (process hazards, skills, tools, PPE, etc.). Identify training needs and assist with the development and implementation of craft training programs.

  • Participate in field safety audits and near-miss/incident investigations. Follow up on safety issues until closure and be an active member of safety committees.

  • Assist maintenance planner with development of job plans through technical analysis, field walks, and identification of resource requirements. Help ensure materials comply with engineering standards.

  • Work collaboratively with other maintenance foremen , planners, and reliability engineers to develop repair strategies and maintain reliability of equipment in support of continuous operations.

  • Participate in daily meetings with Maintenance and Operations supervision to evaluate and discuss work requests, review the schedule, evaluate priority/break-in work, and identify potential issues with the weekly plan.

  • Resolve barriers to completing planned jobs per established schedule.

  • Perform work order close-out, backlog reviews, and monitor schedule compliance.

  • Ensure repair documentation is thoroughly completed. Help maintain corrective and preventive maintenance records for electrical department.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Electrical experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial setting required.

  • Availability for a Monday-Thursday 10-hour shift schedule, on-call weekend rotations, and support for Turnaround and shutdowns as required .

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.

  • 5+ years of electrical experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial setting preferred.

  • Electrical maintenance experience including but not limited to the installation, and repair of motor control circuits, distribution systems up to 25kv, lighting, UPS systems, and heat trace. Must have knowledge of electrical hazards and safe work practices per NFPA 70E preferred.

  • Experience with SAP and Track software systems preferred.

    SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, OneNote) and the ability to leverage these tools for effective communication and coordination.

  • Strong coordination skills, demonstrated through successful interdisciplinary project management (crafts, operations, environmental, inspection, engineering ).

  • Leadership abilities to conduct and facilitate meetings with various stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with both frontline workers and leadership.
