Bon Secours Mercy Health System Director, Safety & Reliability in Richmond, Virginia

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The System Director, Safety & Reliability will lead and manage the accountability for determining and operationalizing long and short- term strategies for meeting and exceeding Bon Secours Mercy Health's (BSMH) Patient Safety and Clinical Reliability outcomes. They will oversee structural and functional operations of shared service lines including Safety and Reliability to ensure stewardship, efficiency, and effectiveness to deliver value based shared services to the health system. They will have fiscal accountability of more than > $3 million dollars for two shared service verticals. The System Director will also be responsible for facilitating company-level shared service collaborations (i.e., with Nursing, Provider, Population Health leadership, and Quality).

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages the System-wide Patient Safety/Harm Reduction strategy and Culture of Safety to ensure a robust patient safety structure that supports harm reduction through reporting, root and common cause analysis, and safety education across all BSMH entities.

  • Deploys System Clinical Reliability and Performance Improvement resources to ensure success with Clinical Transformation and Harm Reduction goals including system action teams, key performance indicators (KPI) playbooks and Toolkits, data access and analysis, and ongoing education and/or certification for associates and providers in Lean Foundations.

  • Manages the reliability plan to facilitate systemwide success on the incentivized Care Transformation KPI goals through system wide action teams and/or collaborations, targeted facility level engagement, action planning, and evidence based best practices.

  • Collaborates at the system and market levels to provide strategic direction and thought leadership on areas overlapping primary shared service accountabilities (i.e., Enterprise Risk Management, Supply chain, Clinical informatics, Information Technology (IT), Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), and Mission).

  • Collaborates with Quality and Risk to ensure program alignment and efficacy to produce synergistic outcomes.

  • Collaborates with nursing and provider services to ensure alignment with strategic goals and maximize shared service model of support to facilitate KPI outcomes.

Licensing/Certification

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality(CPHQ) (preferred)

  • Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) (preferred)

  • Certified Infection Control (CIC) (preferred)

Education

  • Masters in Business, Nursing, Health Administration, Performance Improvement, Public Health, other clinical specialty (required)

  • Doctorate in Medicine, Nursing, Health Administration, Public Health (preferred)

Work Experience

  • 2 years' experience in health systems and proven success of desired outcomes (required)

  • 3 years' experience in health system and proven success of desired outcomes (preferred)

  • 10 years' experience in leadership (preferred)
