Job Responsibilities/Duties

WRPS, the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site, is the largest environmental cleanup organization in the world with numerous dynamic engineering teams coordinated between nuclear operations and other critical projects in hopes to serve the WRPS mission. The mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 54 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste dating back to the Manhattan Project and Cold War.
The Chemical Engineer will support the Mission Analysis Engineering organization and perform technical and programmatic activities in the evaluation and support of tank farm elements that impact the effectiveness of the waste feed delivery program and overall mission execution. Includes engineering support and evaluation of baseline scope work as well as evaluation of new technical and programmatic options that potentially improve the effectiveness of and decrease risk to the overall mission.
Primarily, this position will support Operations Research (OR) modeling activities, which includes:
Preparation of technical documents
Development and coding of Operations Research models
Data analysis and data management
Presentation of OR modeling results
Perform technical evaluations and studies to improve the effectiveness of the Tank Farm processes.
Perform work individually or in multi-discipline cross-functional teams; coordinating with multiple internal and external organizations including Production Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Tank Farm Projects, Mission Integration, ORP, DNFSB, Washington State Department of Ecology, and other external regulators and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
Grade 14:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineer, Chemistry or related technical discipline
Grade 15:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineer, Chemistry or related technical discipline
One (1) year related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in developing and analyzing Operations Research Models
Experience coding in Witness (Operations Research modeling)
Experience with chemical process operations and familiarity with fluid transfer systems
Experience with business intelligence
Experience with Tableau
Experience coding in C#, C++, VBA, SQL and/or Python
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience working in multi-disciplinary task teams
Experience in developing plans and schedules
Experience in performing engineering evaluations and analyses of equipment, processes and/or systems
Experience with software Q/A

Grade 14:
Hiring Range Minimum: $71,200
Hiring Range Maximum: $89,800
Grade 15:
Hiring Range Minimum: $78,338
Hiring Range Maximum: $98,813

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
