Quality Lead

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality lead has overall responsibility for managing site wide consumer safety and quality program implementation and continuous improvement. Following HACCP processes, Unilever Corporate policies, and Supply Chain Nutrition initiatives, the QA lead oversees the site quality agenda and participates as a part of the site leadership team. The Quality lead role works in supporting the Rexdale site and reporting to the Head of Quality for Nutrition.

Essential Job Function/Duties

  • Drive current and future quality performance in the areas of Safety, Quality, Productivity, Cost, Delivery and Morale using WCM operating framework. This includes leading all aspects of the quality department (micro, packaging, raw material and analytical).

  • Establish, lead, and deliver Quality systems for the site

  • Responsible for coaching and recommending promotional opportunities of the teammates.

  • Closely manage D Incidents as they occur, inspect, and recommend dispositions.

  • Support innovations and Quality Training for the factory.

  • Support installation of new laboratory equipment. Ensure Installation Qualifications, Operational Qualifications, and Performance Qualifications are completed as required.

  • Responsible for active participation through Pillar membership in a WCM Pillar and driving loss reduction.

  • Completes all Unilever required testing, inspection, and analysis of incoming raw materials, packaging materials, compounding batches and finished goods using cGMP’s and GLP.

  • Act as the subject matter expert on decisions related to quality programs and processes

  • Provide technical information/feedback related to product inquires or complaints

  • Ensure all products meet or surpass defined quality standards.

  • Responsible for food safety programs

  • Participate as part of site leadership team

  • Hire, develop, and manage quality team, builds Quality talent (recruitment, coaching, training)

  • Participates in developing, maintaining and implementing Quality learning frameworks, Quality skills dictionary and Job skill profiles

  • Support regional and export markets to ensure quality standards and regulatory requirements are met

  • Quality lead has previous outstanding experience in Quality and is expected to perform responsibilities of other Quality positions as needed to support the business, this includes filling in for vacation and other overtime needs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree preferred in technical discipline (Food Science, Microbiolbiology, chemistry, microbiology preferred)

  • 3 or more years’ experience in a manufacturing operation and a strong technical skill set.

  • Ability to utilize WCM or other problem-solving methodology/tools to determine root cause and deploy a systematic approach.

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team towards common goals and encourage team development.

  • Must have the ability to manage project and project teams from inception to completion including hitting deadlines

  • Strong computer, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Familiarity with HAACP and other QA regulations preferred.

  • Food manufacturing experience preferred.
