The Director of Technical Program Management will report directly the VP of Product Management and will be primarily responsible for helping create and refine our product development process. In addition to actively managing complex product development projects, you will also recruit, lead, and mentor a team of Technical Program Managers. You will manage our portfolio of clean energy projects and will work closely with the product management team to plan product launches that align with our overall product roadmap.

What You Will Be Doing

As a part of the Clean Energy Product group, you will be part of developing next generation clean energy solutions, accelerating our progress towards a sustainable energy future. You will play a leading role in creating and executing product development plans for Generac’s clean energy products.

Responsibilities

  • As a Director of Technical Program Management, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the overall macro-level plan for Generac’s next gen energy storage solution, ensuring alignment of multiple sub-projects and driving towards key corporate objectives

  • Owning the Generac Product Development Process (GDP) for the the Clean Energy business, including creating, refining, implementing and training others to use the process

  • Developing other Program tools including schedule templates, budgeting tools, and resource allocation processes

  • Working cross-functionally to ensure all critical activities are accounted for during product development – from product inception to launch.

  • Clearly translating business and product requirements into actionable development plans

  • Crisply and clearly communicating project status to executives, partners, and across teams

  • Driving decision-making on product development intiatives through Generac’s stage gate process and ensuring quality of results

  • Cultivating strong, collaborative relationships across the organization and promoting an effective project team environment

  • Managing, mentoring, and overseeing activities of a team of Technical Program Managers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred

  • 10+ years of proven experience with complex product development projects/programs

  • Track record of successfully developing and launching products, directly managing a team of technical project/program managers, and indirectly managing project team members

  • Experience establishing business governance processes and decision-making frameworks including stage gate processes and resource allocation tools

  • Demonstrated ability to consolidate and communicate technical and project information clearly to a wide audience

  • Adept at collaborating with technical, operational, and business focused groups

  • Results oriented approach, self-motivated, proactive with creative and critical thinking

  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and organizational skills with a high attention to detail

  • Ability to travel up to 20%

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills through the preparation and presentation of technical reviews and program status.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision making — Able to develop and evaluate options and implement, solutions; able to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate solution.

  • Renewable/clean energy (solar, wind) industry experience or working knowledge of grid-interactive energy storage systems

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus.
