Northrop Grumman is seeking an Associate Technical Editor and Writer /Technical Editor and Writer *.  *

This position will be located in Redondo Beach, Palmdale CA, El Segundo CA, Oklahoma City, OK or San Diego CA.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Product Support organization .

Essential Functions:

The selected candidate will perform the following, including, but not limited to:

  • Writes and updates Operation and Maintenance (O&M) technical procedures such as removal/installation, repairs, adjust, and inspections of unit level components to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and maintenance instructions to field maintenance personnel.

  • Performs technical source data research by referring to engineering technical specifications, engineering blueprints and engineering drawings.

  • Prepares and submits technical illustration requests by selecting engineering drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.

  • Candidate must possess general understanding and application of Technical Publications principles, concepts, practices, and standards and independently demonstrate the skill and ability to perform common technical writing tasks.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Ability - General knowledge of application of Technical Data principles, concepts, practices, and standards. Some knowledge of industry practices. Independently demonstrates the skill and ability to perform professional tasks.

  • Problem Solving - Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. May refer to established precedents and policies.

  • Discretion/Latitude - Works under only very general supervision. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.

  • Impact -Contributes to the completion of projects and goals of the organization. Errors in judgment or failure to achieve results would normally be detected in supervisory oversight.

  • Liaison - Frequent internal company contacts. Contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor, and other personnel in the section or group. May develop and deliver presentations to small groups.

  • Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.

  • Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.

  • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.

  • Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems.

  • Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.

  • Operate related equipment, conduct tests and report data in prescribed format.

This requisition may be filled at either anAssociate Technical Editor and Writer(A01) or Technical Editor and Writer(A02).

Basic Qualifications for an Associate Technical Editor and Writer (A01)

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be completing or has completed their Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

  • Be majoring in or having majored in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree.

  • Final approved U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special Access may be required to start.

  • Independently demonstrates the skill and ability to perform professional tasks.

Basic Qualifications for a Technical Editor and Writer (A02)

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be completing or has completed their Master’s degree from an accredited institution or is completing their Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 2 years of engineering experience.

  • Be majoring in or having majored in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree.

  • Final approved U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special Access may be required to start. 

  • Independently demonstrates the skill and ability to perform professional tasks.

Preferred Qualifications for both an Associate Technical Editor and Writer /Technical Editor

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher.

  • Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular).

  • General knowledge of application of Technical Data principles, concepts, practices, and standards.

  • Some knowledge of industry practices.

  • Familiar with Technical Writing Principles.

  • Familiar with PTC Arbortext Editor Software.

  • Familiar with Low Observables Technology.

Pay Range

  • Associate Technical Editor and Writer: $ 45,000.00 - $ 81,200.00

  • Technical Editor and Writer: $ 53,700.00 - $ 98,400.00

Salary Range 2: $53,700 - $98,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
