Microsoft Corporation Product Manager II - Linux in Redmond, Washington

Our group is responsible for the Linux operating systems that power Azure – from virtual machines [VMs] and containers, to bare metal, and silicon – in the cloud and at the edge. We work closely with upstream communities, with software and hardware vendors, Original Equipment Manufacturers [OEMs], Linux distribution partners, and with hundreds of customers inside and outside Microsoft to create and operate Operating System [OS] platforms and products with the highest security, hardware-accelerated performance, and innovation agility. In this Product Manager II - Linux role, you will be responsible for leading the Azure Linux Containers effort across the entire product lifecycle – from planning to execution to adoption by customers. You will work closely with engineering, product management, and partners from across the company to drive outcomes. This is a great opportunity to use your skills to influence and enable Linux container adoption (including distroless) in every aspect of the workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Azure Linux containerization initiative, working across organizations at Microsoft, creating and tracking success criteria across multiple feature areas.

  • Follow industry trends as they relate to containerization tooling, common use cases, and new technologies.

  • Identify areas of focus for container development and usage based on business needs and customer demands.

  • Look for and identify areas where Microsoft can meaningfully contribute to the broader open source communities using containers.

  • Work with customers and partner teams, author documentation, blogs and create demos for events where our team has a presence.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development, and understanding of the design of software solutions using Linux

  • OR equivalent experience

  • Experience as a program or product manager having seen a program or project from inception to delivery

  • Experience working in a cloud native or containerized environment

  • OR equivalent Linux experience

  • Experience working with open source communities in a program or product manager role

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development

  • OR equivalent experience

  • Effective collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams

  • Knowledge of modern technology concepts such as containerization, Kubernetes orchestration, and general open source fundamentals

Product Management IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
