This is a position in Energy Delivery - Fleet Services and can be based anywhere within the FirstEnergy Service territory.

WE ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING TO FILL FIVE (5) OPENINGS ACROSS THE FIRSTENERGY SERVICE TERRITORY. THE POSTING REPRESENTS THE FOLLOWING HIRING AREAS WITHIN THE FIRSTENERGY TERRITORY: Akron, OH, Reading/Pottsville, PA (2), Farmingdale, NJ, AND Morgantown, WV.

Job Summary :

The Manager of State Fleet Services is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic management of the fleet organization. Directs supervisors of the mechanic and work force and personnel at one or more maintenance repair.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the fleet, including scheduling, dispatching, and routing of vehicles.

  • Demonstrate financial discipline by executing approved workplans within budget.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, ANSI and OSHA regulations and standards.

  • Practice and enforce conformance to established work practices and methods outlined in the Fleet Services Safe Work Procedural Manual.

  • Monitor activities and enforcing conformance to such work practices as the Preferred Practices Manual, Accident Prevention Handbook and Safety Specifications and Construction Standards.

  • Perform benchmarking cost analysis to determine the best avenue of repair (in-house vs. vendor services).

  • Procure of repair parts to assure a safe, cost effective, high availability fleet operation.

  • Schedule work to maximize fleet availability and control costs.

  • Supervise and coordinate the maintenance schedules and initiating changes when needed.

  • Supervise and coordinate the process of obtaining estimates for accident damage repairs.

  • Contact vendors and equipment manufacturers to arrange for warranty and other repairs as needed.

  • Recommend equipment design improvements to the Corporate Fleet Administration staff that would reduce maintenance and extend vehicle life.

  • Provide employee training when/where needed.

  • Coordinate storm and other emergency situations as directed.

  • Communicate effectively with fleet personnel and other company personnel/departments to insure awareness of vehicle/equipment availability and problems.

  • Being accountable for following safety requirements, company policies, environmental compliance and standard operating procedures.

  • Conduct effective monthly safety meetings and posting the safety meeting minutes in the safety database.

  • Understand and communicate business information, utilizing this knowledge to take prudent risks and make critical decisions about their work.

  • Support other departments with assistance as needed.

Qualifications Include :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation Management, or related field is strongly preferred. Equivalent training and related work experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in fleet management or related work experience, including experience in managing large fleets. Prior experience in a leadership role is preferred.

  • Related work experience includes fleet operations, logistics, and maintenance program management.

  • Experience in the utility industry or a related sector is preferred.

  • Must possess leadership qualities that allow one to provide effective guidance to others, coach others in effective decision-making and facilitate meetings.

  • Must have proficiency and independence with fleet systems, with specific training in hydraulic power systems.

  • Skill in the development, collection, organization, and analysis of information from a variety of sources to develop reports.

  • Must possess superior communication and analytical skills to enable effective work with fleet and management personnel, along with interfacing and working cooperatively with customers, contractors and the general public, in a professional and courteous manner. Must have strong relationships at all levels.

  • Must have full proficiency with PC software applications including Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.) and M5, along with knowledge of SAP, CREWS, P-Card and FieldNet.

  • Ability to understand and apply knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley compliance requirements.

  • Must understand the company’s Accident Prevention Handbook and apply this to safety in the workplace.

  • Must have demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team environment, to manage, organize and prioritize work and meet strict deadlines.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to multi-task with competing priorities, provide both internal and external quality customer service and demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to operate in a team or consensus decision-making environment, possessing the ability to make quick assessment and deliver well-thought decisions when situations arise that require independent judgment.

  • Must possess leadership qualities that allow one to provide effective guidance to others, coach others in effective decision-making and facilitate meetings.
