As an equal opportunities employer we are now recruiting for trainee Health Physics Monitor to join us on our major project located near Newbury.

Once qualified you will be conducting radiation and contamination surveys in support of our decommissioning operations. The role requires an aptitude in mathematics e.g GCSE level is ideal and an interest in science is useful but not essential. We will provide you all of the training required to begin what could be a lifelong career in an expanding industry with a transferable skill.

Responsibilities:

You will support the Health Physics Manager and Radiation Protection Advisor in maintaining radiological oversight and control of the assigned buildings and keeping our operators safe whilst they deliver our work in both normal and emergent conditions, as we progress work in areas not entered regularly for some time.

Your responsibilities once your training has been completed will include:

  • Assists with decommissioning activities (including entries into areas wearing respirators).

  • Support and perform Health Physics Surveys (checking radiation and contamination) and complete the survey reports.

  • Run air sampling equipment.

  • Ensures the functioning of the Health Physics survey equipment.

  • Provides Health Physics coverage of operations as directed by Health Physics Supervisors.

  • Support and to help ensure Health Physics checking of items removed from controlled areas.

  • Support and help to maintain stock of Respiratory Protective Equipment/Personal Protection Equipment.

  • Perform contamination controlled area dresser barrier duties, including organizing laundry of protective clothing.

  • Support and perform all other related duties as assigned or requested.

Training will include:

  • Nuclear professional fundamentals

  • City and Guilds level 1 radiological protection.

  • Gain knowledge of Radiological Protection, Decommissioning activities and radioactive waste management

  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to a challenging and changing work environment

  • IOSH Managing Safely desirable.

Successful applicant must be a British national and must be eligible to hold a Developed Vetting level of security clearance.
