Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power & Digital Infrastructure Division is currently seeking a Power Electronics Engineering Specialist to join our team This position will be a hybrid office (3x2) role as long as you live within 50 miles of our Raleigh, NC facility. Relocation benefits and sponsorship will be provided within the United States only.

Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power & Digital Infrastructure Division designs, manufactures, and services Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, batteries, and electronic-based products to ensure power reliability in the most demanding applications. The expected annual salary range for this role is $112,500 - $165,000 a year.

What you’ll do:

Be a part of the team responsible for ensuring our critical infrastructure such as data centers, businesses, and electric vehicle charging stations remain functional in the face of whatever power quality issues they face! Our growing team is expanding our product portfolio with next-generation technologies, and we need engineers with a passion to ensure that they make what matters to our customers work without question!

As a Power Electronics Engineering Specialist, you will support our product development and design of our high-power three-phase UPS’s. This role also supports products in our Energy Storage and EV charging product lines. The role includes all aspects of product design life cycle from concept to production as part of a global, dynamic, multi-disciplinary team. In this role you will:

• Successfully launch critical power infrastructure products that meet customer requirements and Eaton safety, quality, reliability, cost and schedule commitments.

• Work with cross-functional engineering team to design and develop new products including SiC three-phase UPS's from 500kW to 2.5MW and Lithium Ion 1MW and larger energy storage systems for maintaining critical loads such as datacenters and hospitals.

• Leverage your skill and experience by giving guidance and leadership to other technical project team members.

• Provide SME input to detailed designs of 480Vac three-phase AC rectifier/inverter, 400Vdc-1500Vdc DC-DC converters and battery chargers including power train, gate drive, feedback control loop, voltage and current sense, EMI and protection circuit designs.

• Work with global product development teams to solve problems related to performance, functionality, safety, reliability, quality and component availability.

• Be recognized as a technical leader. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural globally distributed teams, provide technical direction and mentor younger engineers.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with minimum 7 years' work experience in power electronics OR a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of 3 years' work experience in power electronics

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.

• Experience with Inverter theory/knowledge, knowledge of battery systems and protective devices including power distribution

• Knowledge of three-phase power systems, power electronics, and power conversion topologies

Skills:

Position Criteria:

• Experience applying digital control and algorithms to power electronics systems.

• Understanding of Magnetics Design for high frequency Power Electronics.

• Ability to simulate, analyze, troubleshoot using HIL systems.

• Competent with Matlab/Simulink/PLECS and PSPICE.

• Analyze and simulate power electronics systems from board level to complex products.

• Understanding of layout design principles.

• Work in lab environment around high voltage where safety awareness is critical.

• Excellent verbal/ written communications.

• Position requires an individual who is self-motivated, self-managed, team-oriented, proactive, attentive to detail, task oriented, and able to overcome obstacles to meet schedule requirements.

• Familiarity with common tools and methods to work in high power lab (480V) environment, oscilloscope, power analyzers and meters.

• Participate in project-wide reviews of requirements, system architecture, and detailed design documents.

• Risk assessment.

• Be aware of technical challenges, obstacles, risks, problems and questions for multiple NPD projects.

• Recognized power electronics SME.
