Microsoft Corporation Director – Advanced Cloud Systems & Platform Architecture in Raleigh, North Carolina

The SPARC organization within Azure manages advanced hardware platform and systems architecture, roadmap planning and program management from concept through production for all of Microsoft’s current and future on-line services. Well-defined and executed strategic planning ensures products meet the requirements for performance, features, and time-to-market. The ability to draw insights from a deep understanding of the cloud Hardware Infrastructure landscape and industry trends is critical in informing the roadmap and planning decisions.

We are looking to hire a Director – Advanced Cloud Systems & Platform Architecture to join our team

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with technology providers, understand their portfolios, drive requirements, partner with internal stakeholders in engineering and business groups and drive innovation into Azure’s next generation data centers

  • Collaborate with data center engineering teams, strategize, and project infrastructure needs 2-5 years in the future, influence next generation data center development, and develop recommendations and strategy that give a unique edge to Azure hardware infrastructure.

  • Partner with advanced architecture teams in pathfinding and productizing emerging technology trends and innovation.

  • Performroadmap scenario modeling, financial modeling,and market analysis for the recommended Hardware platform, infrastructure direction,factoring in performance, features, cost, and time-to-market tradeoffs.

  • Drive internal alignment on commodity technology platform plan of record.

  • Recommend internal and external process improvements and excellence conversations cross functionally to ensure we have optimized processes and aligned across partner teams.

  • Create, maintain, and effectively disseminate project communication to stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.

  • 9+ years of experience of cloud datacenter architecture and data center infrastructure.

  • 9+ years of experience of server technology, rack architecture and at scale cloud infrastructure deployment.

  • 9+ years experience in Platform and System architecture design and execution.

  • 9+ years of experience in hyperscalar and cloud scale hardware design and development

O ther Requirements :

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening reqirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience.

  • 4+ years of people management experience.

  • Technical understand of server platform architecture, design and development, with emphasis on at scale deployment.

  • Ability to evaluate emerging technology trends and recommendations and track record of bringing to market new technologies and innovations.

  • Technical understanding of commodity storage or memory technologies (SSDs, HDDs, tape, DRAM etc.) and knowledgeable on storage and/or memory industry trends

  • Technical understanding of GPU, CPU architecture, design and development, with emphasis on power and performance and TCO analysis.

  • Proven customer obsession in prior roles where customer requirements were gathered and implemented into a product.

  • Product Planning or Project Management experience.

  • Proven capabilities to drive positive business results by working across multiple organizations.

  • Experience working in Hardware Infrastructure Engineering Groups

  • Ability to build relationships and influence in a matrix organization.

  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills with proven ability to present to a wide range of cross-functional partners across different teams and levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work in an ambiguous business environment with competing business tasks.

  • Familiarity and previous experience developing programs through phase gate process

Hardware Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
