Job Summary

  • The Facilities Mechanic performs a variety of maintenance duties in the Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, HVACR, and Boiler man fields necessary for the maintenance and repair of the Hospital's building, building systems and grounds. Performs related duties as directed. All Codes (NY State Building and Construction, Life Safety and DNV) will be adhered to.

    Responsibilities

  • Performs, on a daily basis, a variety of maintenance repairs following all applicable codes. Performs minor repair jobs as required without direct supervision. Will assist any mechanic, plumber, carpenter, telecommunications and electrician when directed. Demonstrates the desire and ability to expand the craft persons trade.

  • Performs the duties of a boilerman when stationed in the Boiler Plant to include the operation of Boilers and Chillers and their related equipment. Equipment will be checked, chemical test taken and proper chemicals added as per established guidelines. Readings will be taken and recorded on the proper log sheets, each shift as required.

  • Performs Preventive Maintenance on equipment as directed by a scheduled list of procedures and time schedules. Records will be kept up to date and recorded on the proper forms as work is completed.

  • Checks all equipment relating to the safe operation and environmental comfort of the hospitals building's and grounds throughout the hospital complex. Reports all malfunctioning equipment or unsafe conditions to the Supervisor prior to end of shift.

  • Fills out work orders completely and accurately with pertinent information and job deposition. Completed work orders will be turned in daily. Urgent work order completion status will be reported to the Supervisor as required.

  • Maintains work areas, tools and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition on a daily basis. Uses the proper PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, when needed and as directed.

  • Position is physically demanding. May require work outside normal working hours to include emergency calls or shift coverage. Conditions may at times be hot, cold, and dirty or wet. There is some exposure to major hazards and considerable exposure to minor hazards consistent with this line of work. Safety mechanisms are available and their use is required. Must have good vision, hearing, be fully mobile on steps, ladders etc. Must have sufficient mobility and dexterity of either hands (or mechanical substitutes) to safely operate hand and power tools. Must be able to bend, stoop and lift approximately 50-pound objects.

  • Participates, as directed, in the removal of snow or ice and applies sand, salt or other substances as needed to keep all areas free from ice or snow. Uses hand or mechanical apparatus as needed to complete the job.

  • Responds as needed to hospital fires, disasters and storm emergencies as outlined in the Fire Safety and Disaster Plans for the Hospital.

  • Proper clean attire with no holes in clothing.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/Requirements

  • EXPERIENCE

  • Must have relevant industrial or hospital experience.

  • Must be mechanically inclined and have some training in any maintenance field.

  • EDUCATION

  • High School diploma or equivalent or related trade school certification preferred.

  • LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • N.Y.S. Drivers License

  • If applicable, the individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.

  • Trade school in mechanical work or related trade.

  • Ability to workindependently.

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels through-out the organization.
