Description

Position Summary:

The Production Lead is responsible for leading and/or supervising production employees to ensure production guidelines are being met within established timing, quality, and cost standards. This position has emphasis on semi-skilled and skilled operations, quality assurance and troubleshooting. Must possess a high level of technical proficiency to assist operators in problem solving while exercising considerable judgement and have the ability to lead the production process. Direct the routine maintenance and set-up of machines, equipment, and facilities under the direction of the Shift Supervisor. The production lead will be responsible for filling in supervisory duties in the absence of the shift supervisor.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Follow and enforce all safety protocols to ensure that all employees, no matter the department, are performing their duties in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Responsibilities include assisting in training employees to ensure safe operating procedures, assisting in appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Maintain desired product quality and safety
  • Maintain adequate knowledge of product and equipment to ensure ability to direct employees to perform the job properly
  • Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with OWS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Safety Analysis (JSAs) and applicable laws
  • Suggests changes in workflow processes and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the department and/or production team to maintain the lowest level of downtime and product costs possible
  • Responsible for shift schedule to include: work station assignments/rotations, employee training, vacations, breaks, overtime assignment, back-up for absent employees and shift rotations
  • Directly leads production employees
  • Maintain a high standard of employee relations
  • Be visible on the production floor to address immediate questions and concerns
  • Communicate production issues outwardly and openly to floor/plant leadership to ensure that the issues are corrected
  • Review finished jobs for completeness and correctness (i.e. lot numbers, film usage, cap usage, correct labeling, etc.)
  • Understands and utilizes PLEX to its maximum capability; training personnel on proper paperwork completion in PLEX
  • Learn and perform all basic operator duties on all production equipment to assist operations when necessary.

Requirements

Minimum:

  • 3+ years of experience in a food manufacturing environment (preferably wet)
  • Proven success in building teams and motivating them to produce quality products
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to ensure that downtime is minimized and yield is maximized
  • Strong planning/time management skills and balancing of resources
  • Proven leadership experience in a team setting
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Suite, Google applications, time and attendance applications
  • Strong capability to learn new processes and procedures

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of experience supervising in a food manufacturing environment
  • Good understanding of food manufacturing equipment, proven successes with increasing efficiencies, decreasing down time
  • Leading/mentoring team members as well as holding team members accountable
  • High mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment
  • Strong knowledge of computer applications
