Overview

The sample receiving supervisor oversees the sample receiving group which is responsible for the receipt, verification, storage, and chain of custody of all samples received/shipped out of the facility.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

• Oversees/supervises the Sample Receiving department and assists in the training of Sample Receiving Staff.

• Ensures orderly storage and retrieval system of all study-related TSRC (Reference Standard) and RTS (Various Samples and matrices). Sample management activities.

• Ensures sufficient coverage of staff in Sample Receiving department to support the scientific staff for study materials.

• Receives all test systems/samples/specimens (test system), test substances/articles, reference chemicals/substances, control substances/articles (TSRC) and general chemical shipments. Documents the condition of the shipment, including missing items, damaged materials, and inappropriate packaging. Assigns storage locations and/or delivers materials to scientists. Maintains chain of custody as required. Oversees and coordinates Sample Receiving services to ensure access to samples by scientific staff.

• Inspects incoming radiolabeled shipments for possible contamination and notifies the Radiation Safety Officer of any contamination.

• Ensures that necessary GLP support information is obtained from the sponsor, supplier, or WuXi scientist for TSRC and RTS materials.

• Functions as the source for internal storage, retrieval, and return of TSRC and RTS materials.

• Maintains TSRC and RTS files, walk-in freezer inventories and radiolabeled chemical inventory.

• Coordinates with the Archivist, SRO, and WuXi personnel in the return and/or disposal of TSRC and test system materials at study completion.

• Ensure coverage of receiving shipments after hours and weekends.

• Arranging shipments from Plainsboro Site to Sponsors or Archive Sites.

• Effectively communicates to internal and external customers via email, phone or verbally (in-person)

• Assists with photo reproduction and archiving of RTS and TSRC documentation.

• May serve as sample archivist for retained samples of TSRC and RTS materials as stipulated by regulatory guidelines.

• Complies with all safety rules, practices good housekeeping, and maintains safe workplace without supervision.

• Thorough understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and EPA, FDA, or other relevant regulations.

• Promotes implementation and compliance with WuXi safety policies, practices, and procedures in order to maintain a safe work environment and minimize or eliminate injury.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience / Education:

• Associate’s Degree in Arts and Sciences; Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related field preferred

• 1-2 years experience working in a GLP-regulated laboratory

• 2-3 years experience working in a sample shipping/receiving environment or related field desirable

• Any similar combination of education and experience

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

• Knowledge of commonly used shipping/receiving and safety concepts, practices, and procedures

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multitasking environment

• Effective verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills and attention to detail

• Computer skills: working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access

• Watson LIMS knowledge a plus

• Familiarity with and adherence to regulatory guidelines consistent with WuXi requirements

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work in Lab setting with exposure to Biohazards / Chemicals

• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE

• Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels

• Ability to Stand /Sit for long periods of time

• Ability to Lift 20 lbs routinely

• Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach

• Ability to push/pull 20 lbs routinely

• Clarity of Vision

• Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions

• Ability to work in variable temperatures room temperature to freezing
