MassHealth\'s PCA program provides funds for people with disabilities (consumer-employer or consumer) to manage one or more PCAs. What is a PCA? PCAs are hired to assist consumers with home and personal care tasks. PCAs help consumers live in their homes by providing support with: - Walking - Transferring in and out of chairs and beds - Toileting - Bathing and dressing - Meal preparation - Housekeeping - Shopping Who is the PCA\'s manager? The consumer is the PCA\'s manager. They make the PCA\'s schedule and help train the PCA. Who can work as a PCA? You can work as a PCA if: - You are allowed to work in the United States - You can understand and follow the consumer?s directions You will need to complete a paid, 4-hour PCA New Hire Orientation training after you are hired. No other requirements are needed. Can I work as a PCA for friends or family? Yes, you can work as a PCA for friends and some family members enrolled in the MassHealth PCA program. A person cannot be hired if they are the consumer\'s spouse, parent/foster parent (if the consumer is a minor), or legally responsible relative. What else should I know about working as a PCA? - PCAs can work full-time (up to 50 hours per week) or part-time (as few as one hour per week). - Each consumer has their own preference for education and work experience. - Each consumer can choose whether to run a CORI, SORI or drug test. - Each consumer can choose whether to require COVID-19 vaccination.
