UPMC Research Principal - Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

For over 30 years, the Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders has been involved in a wide range of research for children and adults with developmental disabilities and comorbid psychiatric disorders. Research is supported through grants from the Federal Government, foundations, and pharmaceutical industry sponsors, CADD researchers have studied the efficacy of both psychosocial treatments and pharmacological interventions to address disorders such as ADHD, anxiety, and conduct problems.

The Research Principal will be assisting in preparing grant applications, manuscripts, Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, and research papers. Trains and oversees research study staff, co-leads team meetings, orders study-related materials/equipment, resolves complex data collection issues, and implements protocol-specific recruitment plans. Collaborates closely and establishes working relationships with Department of Psychiatry Grants Office staff, ancillary departments such as UPMC Clinical Translational Research Centers, UPMC Children’s Hospital Down Syndrome Center and personnel from other departments. Will follow funding agency requirements and timelines and establish collaborative relationships with other academic sites and/or coordinating centers.

This position is grant funded.

Purpose:

Provide advanced level research and/or clinical and administrative support to the study. Mentor, train, & assist with supervising junior research staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Mentor, train, and assist with supervising junior research staff as needed.

  • Masters degree required preferably in Psychology, Neuroscience, Counseling, Sociology, or related research field.

  • Minimum of two years of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.

  • Previous experience with individuals with developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome.

  • Experience with children with DS is a plus.

  • Good communication and social skills, previous experience working on clinical research trials with human subjects preferred.

  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.

  • Working knowledge of research methodology required.

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
