Terracon Environmental Planning Department Manager (Natural and Cultural Resources) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 26787BR Job Description General Responsibilities: The Pittsburgh office is looking for a qualified individual to lead our Environmental Planning (natural and cultural resources) department to ensure that work is executed on time, in budget, and in accordance with the executed proposal and within company policies, procedures and standards.  Scopes of work may include wetlands, listed species, cultural resources (archaeology and historic preservation), permitting, and other related service areas. The manager will supervise the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of staff, and pricing to achieve desired profitability. They will also supervise the daily operations of the environmental planning department including coordination with Group Managers, staff training and development, safety oversight, quality of services and work products, timely delivery of services and deliverables, budget reviews, weekly financials, and adherence to policies and procedures.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities: Responsible for preparation of proposals and cost estimates. Perform business and client development activities with support from the Office Manager, Group Managers, and Client Development Manager. Develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection and on-boarding with support from the Office Manager and Group Managers. Prepare and execute annual business plan for the environmental planning department with support from the Office Manager and Group Managers. Oversee and manage the success of the key department metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability with support from the Office Manager and Group Managers. Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk and company risk policies. Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects. Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices. Engage APRs on projects at their onset. Lead or manage wetlands and waters of the United States delineations, Section 401 and 404 permitting. habitat surveys, listed species surveys and permitting, archaeolgical surveys (Phase I, II, III) and/or historic resource surveys. Documented ability to write clearly and persuasively.Requirements: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, anthropology, archaeology, or closely-related field, and 5 years' experience working on wetland, listed species, and/or cultural resources projects. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years' related experience. Previous supervisory experience managing teams/departments and project management (i.e., wetlands, listed species, cultural resources) experience required. Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
